I shamlessly based this off of the
Takarazuka one. Read on if you want to see how I changed the questions. ^^
My answers are also behind the cut.
1. Please tell us your name, age, and your history of being a fan.
Jen, age 17 and I've been watching anime (like, FANSUBS), since I was about...10 or 11.
2. What was the first anime you saw?
Pokemon of course! Of course, after watching Digimon, I couldn't sit through Pokemon anymore. Especially after the second season (ZOMG THE PLOT TWISTS.)
3. What was the anime that first addicted you?
The anime that got me started was Miyazaki's Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbour Totoro). Random, I know. I blame the catbus!
4. Who was the first seiyuu that you REALLY became a fan of?
I think Romi Paku. ^^ FMA was pretty influential for me, I think.
5 Do you download torrents of anime, or watch streaming video?
Streaming video. My parents don't allow me to use bittorent.
6. Please tell us the anime you prefer. More than one is okay.
Denno Coil, ef ~ a tale of memories, Kuroshitsuji, Ouran High School Host Club, Axis Powers Hetalia, Azumanga Daioh, Haibane Renmei, Noein, Lucky Star, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, etc.
7. Please tell us the manga you prefer. More than one is okay.
Vampire Knight, Fruits Basket, Hoshi wa Utau, Koko ni Iru yo!, Watashi ni xx Shinasai, Kimi ni Todoke, Boku wa Kisu de Uso wo Tsuku, Reimei no Arcana, Heart no Kuni no Alice, etc.
8. Which male seiyuu do you like? Up to three is okay.
Daisuke Ono, Miyano Mamoru, Minori Shiraishi, etc.
9. Which female seiyuu do you like? Up to three is okay.
Aya Hirano, Nana Mizuki, Yui Horie, etc.
10. Which anime made you think, "Give me my money back!" as you were watching it?
Pretty Cure. GOD, I HATE THAT SHOW.
11. Outside of the ones you prefer, which anime is on your mind the most right now?
Kaichou wa Maid-sama. I love the manga, but I don't have any patience for the anime (but I feel like I should be paying attention to it).
12. What obscure-ish (anime you love that no one you know has heard of) do you like?
Earth Girl Arjuna (no one cares about this show even though Yoko Kanno composed the songs for it) and Denno Coil.
13. Please tell us which of the "cool older woman" type seiyuu do you like?
I watch a lot of stuff where I think "wow, that character sounds so COOL!", but I always forget to look them up. But I think, Rie Tanaka, Romi Paku...etc, etc.
14. Please tell us which of the "older sister" type seiyuu do you like?
Kikuko Inoue is THE onee-sama seiyuu OF ALL TIME. 'nuff said.
15. Please give us your strong point and weak point as an anime fan.
My strong point is that I know more about anime in the '90s and early 2000's than most people my age. My bad point is that I am extremely nitpicky when it comes to fandom stuff (fanfiction, fanart, what have you)
16. What's your greatest boast as a anime fan?
I know there are a lot of people that have more stuff than I do, but I'm pretty darn proud of my Fruits Basket manga collection (I must have 14 volumes...) along with other CLAMP related stuff (I need to buy more CLAMP no Kiseki...)
17. What's your greatest confession as an anime fan? Feel free to elaborate.
When I was about 12, I used to think that you needed to get an anime tatoo to become an otaku. Thankully, common sense prevailed in the end, and I realized how stupid such a notion was (would Japanese otaku REALLY get tatoos, especially with all the hikkikomori? Come on.)
18. Is there an anime you wish someone would make a remake of?
Serial Experiments Lain. I can't stomach the original because of the dated art, but I KNOW there is something interesting there. But I just can't get through it.
19. Is there a manga you wish there could be a sequel for?
Most manga do a good job of concluding things. But I wish some of the Fruits Basket storylines could have been expanded on a bit.
20. Please try and analyze the kind of anime you're inclined to enjoy.
I'm pretty inconsistient, LOL. I need good music and good art, most of the time. Pacing and plot are also extremely important. For example, I think Durarara is great, but I find myself bored because the series drags with some things. In general, the only anime I instantly pass by are fan-service harem anime.
21. What anime characters do you think is suited for wearing gothic lolita? (guys wearing gothic suits and whatnot are okay too!)
The whole cast of Vampire Knight, XD.
I do think that that Isuzu Sohma (Fruits Basket manga) would look good in Classic Gothic Lolita.
22. Do you ever actually use the term "Japanese animation"?
When I'm being formal. But most of the time, no.
23. Some comments on Megumi Hayashibara.
She sure was popular way back then! But she's not doing a whole lot right now (since she's a mother and all). I think she was great in Paprika, and that she's a decent singer.
24. What do you think are requirements for a good anime?
Plot, characterization, music and art. Those are the four big ones for me.
25. What do you think are requirements for a good manga?
Art, art, art. I can overlook some things, since I tend to read a lot of trashy shojo manga. In terms of shonen manga, I need originality. I've seen too many manga with shinigami in them...
26. What do you think of Rumiko Takahashi?
I used to LOVE Ranma 1/2 and InuYasha when I was younger. I was reading her new manga, and I thought it was pretty good, but I've lost track of it as of late.
27. What do you think of the SOS Brigade seiyuu (Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, Yuko Goto, Daisuke Ono, Tomokazu Sugita)?
Such a wonderful, talented bunch! I love them all <3 Aya and Minorin are so awesome and versatile! And don't even get me started on Gotouza-sama, XD. The guys are all awesome too~
28. What do you think of the Full Metal Alchemist seiyuu?
I like the cast as a whole, but I don't really pay much attention to the homunculi...
29. What is the coolest name for an anime/manga character?
For girls, Yuko, Yukino, etc. Other than that, I like female names that don't end in "ko", I think.
For guys, Tamaki, Kyo, Zero...
In terms of surnames, I think "Fujibayashi" is such a fun name to say, XD.
30. Is there an anime you wish you could have seen when it was still being televised?
The original Gundam, maybe? I might want to try watching DBZ as well. I can't really marathon a show like that.
31. Is there an anime/manga where you think: "It wasn't licensed this time, but next time..."? What is it?
I thought that a bunch of times with K-ON.
32. Some comments on May'n.
I love her and I think she is amazingly talented. Sometimes I think her vocal effects are a bit excessive though.
Also, the quality of her English comes and goes...
33. If you had to select an anime from this or last year to recommend, what would it be?
*browses Wikipedia*
Eden of the East was good and unique, so that. But Sayonara Zetsubou-sensei is good too.
34. In terms of art style, do you prefer Naruto or Bleach.
Bleach. For the cover pages of the chapters, the characters are always wearing such stylish clothes, (especially the male characters =^_^=)
35. Is there someone (studio, seiyuu, director etc.) whom you want to ask to improve something? Who/what is it?
I think that Kugimiya Rie's "tsundere" voice is really annoying. I like her other roles though.
36. Some comments on Maya Sakamoto.
I love her as Haruhi Fujioka. I'm also starting to listen to her songs (that are not Mameshiba) a bit more. Get No Satisfaction is a good song ^^
37. Some comments on Natsuki Takaya.
Her earlier work is kind of...ugly. I'm sorry, it just looks really bad. Fruits Basket doesn't start to look good until about volume four. After that, her style stabilizes and everything starts looking good (although her style goes through another change at around volume 11-13 ish). In terms of plot, Fruits Basket is VERY interesting. I'm especially interested in Kanade (Hoshi wa Utau)'s backstory.
38. Please tell us about a person (seiyuu, director, artist, music group, whoever!) who should be used more in the anime industry.
Kalafina. They should do more openings/endings for anime (although they've done a few already).
I do think it would be interesting to see Perfume do a song for an anime.
39. If I said "someone treasured by the fandom", whom would you associate that with?
Aya Hirano. Her popularity exploded after Haruhi, and it seems like she's going strong.
40. Whom do you consider the best seiyuu/singer?
Nana Mizuki. Have you HEARD Etsuraku Camellia yet? The hotness...
41. "Bad plot", "bad art" and "bad music". Which one of these is the biggest anime turn-off?
Bad plot, in the end. But I will pass on an anime initially if it has bad art.
42. Some comments on KOTOKO.
I used to kind of like her, but now, I don't particularly care for her. I can understand why her music was used it Shakugan no Shana, but NOT Maria-sama ga Miteru T_______T
43. What do you think is the preferred amount of episodes for an anime to air?
I really like 12-14 episode anime, since it's easy to watch. Despite this, I was really sad when Eden of the East ended. Like, "what, that's IT??" kind of reaction. It depends on what you're going to do with the air time. If you're going to have 10 episodes of filler, I don't want to watch it.
44. Please tell us who your favorite anime director is, and which of their works you like most. Up to two people is okay.
Satoshi Kon - Tokyo Godfathers, Paprika
Hayao Miyazaki - Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
45. Please tell us who your favorite mangaka is, and which of their works you like most. Up to two people is okay.

Toma Rei - Boku wa Kisu de Uso wo Tsuku, Reimei no Arcana, Tsukushite Agemasu
46. Is there a cosplay you'd like to try on?
Yuko Ichihara's outfit that she wears when she meets the Tsubasa group. Pretty much all of her stuff.
I'd also like to try Yuki Cross' school uniform and a Miku Hatsune cosplay.
47. Please tell us your favorite anime instrumental tune. Up to three is okay.
Bloody Rabbit (Pandora Hearts), I talk to the rain (Tsubasa Chronicle), Chloe (Earth Girl Arjuna).
48. Please tell us your favorite anime opening. Up to three is okay.
Ebullient Future (ef ~a tale of melodies), Mitsu no Yoake (Spice and Wolf II), All the Way (Kino no Tabi).
49. Please tell us your favorite anime ending. Up to three is okay.
Don't Say Lazy (K-ON!), Lacrimosa (Kuroshitsuji), Tomare! (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu II)
50. If I say "tsundere", who do you think of?
Kagamin (Kagami Hiiragi) of course! ^_^ Although there's Azunyan and Mio too...
51. What do you think is Studio Ghibli's best work?
Howl's Moving Castle, because Howl is a total bishie and Sophie is a lot less annoying than Chihiro.
52. What do you think of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood being made less than a decade after the first series?
While I'll admit it's nice to see Ling and Ran Fan animated, FMA was kind of low on my "anime I want redone" list. But they did a good job with it.
I also need to say I was NOT pleased when I heard that Toru Okawa was not voicing Roy in Brotherhood.
53. Please tell us what you think is Kyoto Animation's best work?
KyoAni did a great job with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The second season...not so much.
54. Some comments on Mamoru Hosoda's works.
I remember Digimon: The Movie! That was so good! The art was nice too.
I like all of his newer stuff. In terms of plot, TokiKake is superior, but the visual style of Summer Wars is really good.
55. In general, what anime studio do you like the most?
Apart from Studio Ghibli, I think that Shaft's works are very interesting.
56. Is there someone from outside of Japan that you'd like to work on an anime? It doesn't matter how feasible it is.
I'd be interested in how an anime with Tim Burton working on it turned out.
57. Is there an original work (novel, movie, historical person) that you'd like to see turned into an anime?
Mortal Engines by Phillip Reeve. And Harry Potter LOL
58. Do you like Studio Bones' works?
A lot of their stuff has great art, like Eureka Seven and Soul Eater. I think they did a great job with translating Ouran's visual style to animation.
59. What do you think of Studio Pierrot's works?
Most of their stuff is OK, but I loved Victorian Romance Emma
60. Well then, what about Madhouse?
My, they've done a lot. I remember watching Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran (that was so long ago XDDD).
Let's see...all of Mamoru Hosoda and Satoshi Kon's works, Death Note, Chobits, Denno Coil, Kobato, Nana...so it's safe to say I like their stuff.
61. Who is your favorite anime hero?
Kyon (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu), since his narrative is really good (it's more detailed in the novel though)
Renton (Eureka Seven) has really good insight when he's reflecting on the series' events, which is kind of refreshing.
62. Well then, what about the best heroine?
Konata Izumi (Lucky Star). She's so easy to understand. ^^
63. Predict the winners of Saimoe this year.
Isn't it a bit early for that? ^^;;
64. Do you watch anime alone or with friends?
Normally, alone. But I love watching with friends at anime club, because they add in fun commentary ^^
65. Do you have a lot of friends that watch anime/read manga?
I have a few "hardcore" otaku friends, along with a few casual ones.
66. What do you think of otaku culture in general?
Japanese otaku culture - Awesome. Japanese otaku are absolutely amazed and dedicated and...stuff. For examples, please see Nico Nico. I will admit there are some creepy otaku. Especially the ones that read lolicon.
Outside of Japan, otaku culture can be just as impressive, but also pathetic. Non-Japanese otaku can be some of the most eloquent people on the internet or the least intelligent, depending on where you look.
67. Do you like moe?
It depends. If it doesn't come with fan service, yes.
68. Feel free to say something about sailor uniforms.
I like them, they're easy to draw. I'm amazed at how game makers diversify the basic design in dating sims.
69. A comment about Newtype.
I miss the English language version, although it was too expensive for me to buy normally. I really like looking at pictures from the Japanese version though.
70. A comment about English language anime magazines (Anime Insider, Protoculture Addicts, etc.).
I have fond memories of reading Anime Insider in my youth, XD. I'd like to try reading Protoculture Addicts at some point, since I haven't yet.
71. Do you use Animate often?
No. If I go to Japan I would.
72. What goods would you like to see at Animate?
Don't they have every piece of anime merchandise you can even imagine? So not really...
73. Have you ever been to Kinokuniya?
I'd like to. I've heard they have branches in the U.S.
74. Is there a video you saw against your better judgment and liked?
Allison and Lillia. Based on the art, I KNEW I wouldn't like it, but I watched an episode of it anyway.
75. What do you do with your anime stuff in your room?
CDs, Raw manga and untranslated novels are on my desk. Artbooks, how-to books and Newtype magazines are on my dresser. Old Anime Insiders and English language manga is in my closet.
76. Please tell us about a maid cafe you would recommend.
I haven't been to Japan yet...^^;;
77. What is your most expensive anime-related purchase?
I think my Gundam SEED Destiny CD, which was a little over $30 was the most expensive.
78. Feel free to say something about Anime News Network.
I love Anime News Nina! ^_^ I also read the video games column and Hey Answerman. As of late, I've been reading the anime previews, so I'm getting ideas on what to watch.
79. Do you watch anime on TV?
I used to. But most of the channels I have access to don't really show it.
80. Do you actually buy raw manga?
Yes, I do. I want to keep buying Kuroshitsuji and Fruits Basket, but apart from that, I'm not sure what I want.
81. What do you think about Gothic Lolita being used in special art (like Haruhi characters being dressed in it in artbooks).
If it looks good, it's fine.
82. What do you think about the "how to draw manga" books?
Some of them are a bit dated (so I don't read them). But the newer ones are pretty good.
In terms of the ones written by western artists, I cannot STAND Christopher Hart. His art is so UGLY. Not all western art is bad, but make sure to flip through the book before you buy it.
83. Confess, if you're talking with a friend about anime you don't really like, are you bored?
Somewhat. You can only talk about Ichigo's bankai for so long.
84. What, in your opinion, makes moe so attractive?
It's just so cute! ^^ I love the outfits too.
85. Are you partial to the anime blogsphere?
I read Ramblings of Dark Mirage and Random Curiosity on ocassion. But if I find an interesting blog, I'll end up reading entries for a while...
86. Have you gotten caught up in any internet conflicts?
Yes. It was on a forum, in a serious discussion. The details of it are kind of stupid. The person I was arguing with was a total idiot.
87. Do you prefer not to think of anime as a business?
With the economic climate, anime is a business before an art form. This isn't true for every anime, but now, there's been an increase of harem shows that are supposed to appeal to a certain group of otaku.
88. What do you think of non-anime fans who associate anime as animated pornography or kiddy cartoons?
People associated anime with porn a lot more in the early 2000's. I think this still happens, but not as often now.
As for the opinion of kiddy cartoons, yeah, it's still somewhat common. But I say, "show them Evangelion, and they will never think anime is just for kids AGAIN."
89. Have you come out as a Takarazuka fan at work or school?
It's not really a huge deal at my school since at least 80% of my school's population is of Asian descent and a lot of them have seen anime at some point. But not everyone is going to understand you if you start talking about
zettai ryouiki.
90. If a complete beginner asked you "What's so great about anime?" how would you reply?
Depending on what you watch, it can change your perceptions of the world.
91. Have you ever used the term "obsessed" in regards to your love for anime?
Back when I was in my early teens, definitely. Now, I've mellowed out a bit.
92. Has your love for anime ever slanted your perceptions of men in your real life?
I think it has, in some ways. But recently, I've started liking kurokami megane (guys with black hair and glasses) -_____-;;
LIke, if it's done correctly, I go, "MOE~~~~~" deep inside my heart ^___^
93. Have you ever had an instant as a fan where you thought: "I've gone past the point of no return?"
Definitely, in my early teens. Actually, I'm still past the point of no return, LOL
94. What kind of person is an "excessive fan"?
Someone who has boxes upon boxes of stuff in their home. They are also incredibly pushy and bratty in online discussions.
95. What are your opinions of the different genders being anime fans?
What with shoujo manga and yaoi being so popular, it's not so unusual for females to be fans as it would be a decade ago.
96. Please tell us your definition of an "old fan".
Someone who's been a fan since the late '80s or early '90s.
97. What do you think is something that anime fans must not do?
Skimpy/sloppy cosplay. I've seen pictures, and it ain't pretty.
98. What would cause you to stop being an anime fan?
Deep down, I will always love my favorite shows. But I would stop being a fan after a few bad years with no anime I am interested in.
99. Do you want your children to be anime fans?
They might not be anime fans, but they will probably be gamers, since I will have a ton of game systems in the house :D
But as long as they are watching reasonable stuff, I won't mind.
100. Last question. What is anime to you? Please answer with something other than "escapism".
It's something that inspires me. Good art inspires me to draw different things. Good music gives color to my morning commute to school.I know that this can apply to any form of media, but the art of Yana Toboso and the music of Yuki Kajiura just inspires me.
Besides, without anime, my current life would be very different. I would not have met a lot of different people, and I would have missed out on a variety of experiences.
