"Especially, the families want the United States to disregard political interests and give more active support to save the 21 innocent lives."'
You know what? No. We get so much shit from the rest of the world for "trying to be the global police." We're not merely criticized for it. We're condemned for it. We're seen as terrorists for it. And, when some of your people get attacked by actual terrorists, where do you turn? To the US! To the country you think of as some horrible monster! Fuck that. Have your own government fix this. Have your own government send troops to defend your people from terrorism. Even then, you won't understand things, because, since it's not the US sending troops there, it's obviously not an evil act!
(same place)
'A South Korean civic group criticized the US for refusing to get more involved in the standoff, saying it was as if the US was watching "a fire across a river".'
Which is EXACTLY what every other nation on earth seems to think is the appropriate response to people being victimized in other parts of the world! Surprise, surprise! We act the way you want us to, and we're fucking criticized for it!
Look, I'm sympathetic. I really am. Those people are probably going to be killed because the terrorists holding them have said that any military action against them will result in the deaths of the hostages, and nobody is going to validate the terrorists by trying to bargain with them.
But, on the other hand, those people either knew they were walking into a very dangerous situation, or they were very naive. This shit happens to foreigners over there. It goes to show what kind of enemy we're dealing with over there. Even people with benign purposes (I'm talking about the aid worker bit, not the "you should worship MY god" bit) over there will not be spared these horrors.
But, seriously. The world needs to decide if they want us to stick our collective nose into the world's problems or if they want us to to join the crowd watching the fire from across the river. If the first, then they need to stop criticizing us every single time we do. If the latter, they need to stop criticizing us for being just like them.
