Last day of freedom

Tomorrow is my last free day before I become a slave to the man. And fortunately, it should be a fun day. We've got the Sox-Yanks at 1:00, then Pats-Cards at 4:00, which will be interrupted by bowling league at 5:00 (though, with luck, the game will be on at the alley). Finally, we're in a bowling league. We did that dinky summer league which was, well, not really a league at all. It was more like four people bowling together. Hopefully the competition will be a little better in this full-season league. My first league night will also be the debut of my completely new arsenal (where arsenal is defined as two balls--strike and spare). It's kind of sad to be retiring my trusty Tornado, but after even just a few weeks of swining that 15-lb. ball, 13 lbs. was just too light. Now that I no longer need it as a spare ball it's time for it to take a place on the shelf. I was thinking of trying to sell it, but since there doesn't seem to be much of a market for it (and therefore not much potential for making what I would consider enough money off of it) I'm going to be content to let it become a memento. It has been a very good ball for me and it deserves a special place.

So yeah, bowling league. I can't wait, even though I don't know what my team will be (other than that Megs is on it), how much it costs, what the handicap is, or, well, anything else, other than it meets at 5:00 on Sundays. We've already missed two weeks of it, which kind of sucks. We were all set to join a Friday league when I got the sports clerk job, which nixed weeknights. Any of the leagues we might have joined would be more expensive than Kegglers (ah, how I miss College Lanes already), but you do get some of that back in prize money at the end of the season. So that's kind of cool. I still think it's an awful lot like gambling, though, even if there's more skill than luck involved in the payouts.
