Happy Birthday Kansas!
Yes, it's true, Kansas turns 150 today~
So I thought I'd use this opportunity to talk about the Kansas state-tan I've been working on. At first I didn't like the idea of state-tans... but lately they've been growing on me. I've got a headcanon going for all of the midwestern states, but since I'm from Kansas and therefore know a lot about it, she's the most developed.

- I imagine Kansas look kind of like Dorthy from The Wizard of Oz, since that's what most people think of when they think of Kansas, and Hetalia is supposed to be about stereotypes. Because the state is pretty flat, Kansas is a flat-chested girl.
- Another reason I decided she would be a girl is that Kansas granted women suffrage in 1912. It wasn't guaranteed in the federal constitution until 1920.
- Even though it seems like a pretty basic thing... I can't figure out I want her "human name" to be.
- She's a tomboy and loves being outside. Her most favorite thing to do is go camping. She does a lot of farm work, so she's really strong.
- Like Dorthy, Kansas has a pet dog named Toto. She's also really good with farm animals and buffalo (which is the state animal).
- She's constantly fighting with with Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. But mostly Missouri; she's still angry about Missouri burning down Lawrence before the Civil War. (As a side note, I imagine Missouri is a lot like Tom Sawyer). She likes to make fun of her neighbors a lot, and doesn't seem to notice she's not that different from them...
- Back in the day, most of Colorado was part of the Kansas territory. She's terribly in love with Colorado, but she doesn't think he's interested since they've split up. Whether this is true or not still remains to be seen.
- She loves Sunflowers (the state flower),.
- Weather in Kansas is pretty crazy, so she's a little bit eccentric. She likes to chase tornadoes with Oklahoma, when they're not bickering about this and that.
- As I mentioned before, the town of Lawrence was burned down during Bleeding Kansas (which, until the Oklahoma City bombings, was considered the most horrific act of domestic terrorism to ever happen in America). Because of this, she's afraid of fire.
- Amelia Earhart is from Kansas, and Boeing is centered here, so I imagine Kansas-tan would like flying planes. Maybe that's what she and Alfred bond over?
- She's not a very refined person, so she avoids going to fancy parties as much as possible.
- She brags about being the center of the country a lot, even though nothing very important happens here... She's also very proud of the worlds largest ball of twine, which resides here. The other states think this is a weird thing to be proud of...
- She also brags a lot about the band Kansas, though that is a little more justifiable.
- She was good friends with William Allen White, the journalist, until he named his book What's the Matter With Kansas. They drifted apart after that...
- She puts barbecue sauce on everything. Barbecue is serious business.
- She longs for the days of the old cow towns, because life was exciting back then.
