Just getting home from a night shift working on the top of a building. Chilly. Sniffly.

The weather has turned cool here in Central Texas and it really feels like autumn, pretty much my favorite time of year. Itching to travel, like I usually do in October, but no trips to Romania or such in the cards this year. But that's ok. Keeping my brain busy lately with books. picked out some good reading for the month. Just blew through Lost Souls and now reading Drawing Blood by Poppy Z. Brite. She's a great, smart, horror writer and she works New Orleans into her stories pretty well. She's pretty much the beginning of the thread that led me to this site seven years ago.

Got some more books in the mail yesterday. Finally used up a Barnes and (ig)Noble gift card I got last Christmas. Got Dead Souls by Gogol and the Nightwatch book. I liked the movie quite a bit. I want to read the novel in translation and then go back and read it in Russian later if I can get ahold of a copy of it. Bought another book in of Russian novellas with the translations on the opposite page. So...yeah...still working on my Russian. also reading an interesting book called Clash with Distant Cultures. It's an old text book from my Tulane years. It's written pre-9/11 but the observations it makes, some of them anyway, about the place that culture plays in American Foreign Policy and International Policy in general, bear out to modern times.

Kinda bummed. ok more than kinda, that I won't be able to make it to the Rise Against show next weekend. They had to reschedule my monthly Marine Corps Drill for that weekend and we're going out of town for it...so...enh. But I did manage to pick up their new album yesterday and I've been listening to it. Good stuff.

Was looking up info on Appaloosa, which I would really like to go see, and happened across the IMDB page for Jeremy Irons. Apparantly he is playing Alonso in a film version for the Tempest coming out next year! Should be interesting. Good cast. Helen Mirren as Prospera...interesting.

waiting to get the chill outta my bones and then going to crawl into bed for sleep. I can't fall asleep when I am cold. even if I get under the covers, that chill stays with me.
