Fill: The Edge in Your Affection (Broke My Skin) - 2/? nevcolleil January 29 2012, 21:24:00 UTC
The thing about Sarah is that- If Bryce has never really had someone who was completely his, Sarah's never really been had by someone. She's never belonged to anyone who could or would bank on that. Sarah loves the way that Bryce loves - the way most people love, Bryce thinks - with passion and appreciation but also the knowledge that good things end, that people change. That love, like anything else, can die, can fade, can become more of an inconvenience than an advantage and can be traded in or left behind or simply caught in the crossfire; nobody's fault, just fate.

Sarah doesn't love like Chuck. Few people do (and Bryce is willing to bet that all of them have the last name 'Bartowski'.) Sarah doesn't know what feeling a love like Chuck's can do to a person, how it can get inside of them and complicate things, and when Bryce tries warning Chuck away, he knows that Chuck thinks that it's for every possible reason except the real ones.

Bryce is afraid of what will happen if Sarah learns to love by Chuck's rules and then is forced to choose between him and saving him. Bryce is afraid of what will happen if she isn't.

Bryce could probably uncomplicate things at least a little by just sharing this with Sarah, or sharing the full truth with Chuck. Or walking away and just letting them sort everything out for themselves...

But it's like Bryce said. Chuck's love can get inside of a person and make them do things differently than they would choose to do them, and Bryce isn't immune.

Bryce could give Chuck the damned glasses and get his ass out of Burbank, but instead he catches himself studying Chuck's face in the moonlight and considering the logistics of manhandling a man into a bedroom via a Morgan-door.

"Bryce, why are you looking at me like that?"

"You think we could go inside, Chuck? Just so we can continue this conversation in private?" Bryce aks. And Chuck is so ridiculously, wonderfully naive that he probably believes it.

"Uh... yeah. Um. Just a second."

Bryce can practically feel Casey's eyes burning hotter holes into the back of his head.

And although Casey probably also has Chuck's room bugged (he had better have Chuck's room bugged - anybody could get in here and get at Chuck; Bryce is going to have to do something about that) Bryce doesn't hesitate to do something worthy of getting glared at once he and Chuck are behind closed doors.

"Look, if you're going to tell me about you and Sarah, I already know, Bryce. But I don't want to-"

Bryce grabs Chuck - hard. As hard as he's wanted to since Chuck walked into a padded room and brushed off his Klingon at Bryce's request. Bryce kisses Chuck hard, too. Hard and wet and deep, hands searching for skin wherever he can find it.

Chuck mumbles muffled variations on Bryce's name, and "wait", and "oh my god" and Bryce just doesn't let up until Chuck is licking at that spot behind Bryce's ear (Chuck knows it drives Bryce crazy, still) in the way that tells Bryce that this is happening. He can calm down and take his time because Chuck isn't going to make him stop.

And afterwards, conversation is going to be every bit as awkward as you'd expect.

And when the issue of Sarah comes up between them, it's going to be that much harder for Bryce to explain the way he feels.

And who knows what Sarah's going to say about it. Bryce isn't naturally good at resisting his stronger impulses, either, but in this case it isn't what Bryce is tempted to do that worries him.
