The minute she walked out of the heavy doors and onto the grounds she could feel the knot in her stomach dually loosen and tighten. She restrained herself to a brisk walk even though her entire body was screaming for her to take the long path to the front gates at a full on sprint. It had been months since she’d seem them. Since she’d seen him.

They were still broken. Every one of them. Wounds would reopen easily, but every new day would staunch the bleeding and dull the pain. They were healing.

She pushed through the heavy iron gates the led out of school grounds and into Hogsmead. No sooner had she put both feet in unprotected ground, she disapparated.

Sometimes, in the midst of the push and pull of, her heart would drop in panic. She would forget she didn’t need to be grasping two hands at her side. That there wasn’t anyone to be lost. That they were safe.

When she opened her eyes again, her stomach did another flip. She was just outside the fence, looking upon the Burrow. Her face split into an wide smile, she trudged through the snow and entered the front gate. She looked up and saw the faint flash of red hair through a high window, apparently alerted by the distinct pop of her arrival. Even from outside, she could hear the bellowing voice.

“Oi! Ronniekins! I think you have a visitor!”

Her chest swelled instantly. There were other muffled shouts inside of the house as she slowly grew nearer.

He ripped the door open, half eaten piece of toast still clutched in his hand. He peered frantically through the snowfall and spotted her.

She let out a sound of relief, half laugh, half sob. She quickened her pace to a jog, but not before he bolted barefoot out of the doorway through the snow towards her. They collided in the middle of the yard, she dropped her rucksack and wrapped her arms around his neck. She buried her face into the warm nape of his neck as he lifted her, her feet dangling just above the ground. He was grasping her a bit too tightly, though she didn’t protest one bit. They stood for a minute, snow falling heavily on their warm bodies. He put her feet back on the ground, but held her against him for another moment.

“I thought you weren’t back till tonight,” he said quietly, his voice muffled. She could feel his breath against her hair. “Ginny’s not back till tonight.”

“I know,” she laughed softly, pulling back from him to see his face. He was worn down, but his face was soft, relaxed with the relief of being able to have her beside him. “I finished early. Persuaded McGonagall to let me leave.”

Their arms were still clutching each other, both still grinning. She peered her head around his shoulder to look into the house. When she was sure they didn’t have an audience other than the shivering lawn gnomes, she pulled his head down forcefully to meet hers, kissing him full on the mouth. He staggered back a step, bringing his hand up to cup her face, feeling her hair brush slightly against his fingers. When they finally broke apart, he spoke in a honest tone with both joy and sorrow laced through his voice.

“Blimey, I’ve missed you.”
