Some memories of Australia ...ki11ing_buddhaMay 4 2006, 03:03:44 UTC
I visited Perth when I was in the Navy. We were hanging out with some people at some party when this guy walked in saying he stabbed an American sailor. This guy was pretty huge and crazy looking, too. Anyways, me and my friend kind of just looked down and tried to make ourselves inconspicuous.
That same night a girl was complaining to me that all Americans just throw their money around like its nothing. I protested and said, "Americans aren't like that." Five minutes later my friend from the ship walked in and threw $30 on the couch and said, "Alright! Let's go get some beer!" I felt kind of dumb after that.
The taxi driver ... I took a taxi and I noticed some people walking around in oddly colored clothes. I asked him who those people were, and I'll never forget this. He said, "Ahhh those are just the aborigines. Y'know, your Americanized Africans are much more intelligent than our aborigines here in Australia."
I was like, "WHAT the heck did you just say?!?"
I don't know, though. I can see how our cultures are different. I usually don't harbor those types of opinions, but are aborigines really that looked down upon? Just curious.
