Oh, bah. Just missed out on three Cold Feet press packs because someone on Ebay paid a small fortune for them. Ebay, thou art both a blessing and a curse.
Also, spent a fair bit of time doing an extra-long survey last night only to have my computer crash as I was posting it here. Tiddlepoms.
Anyway, in yet another update (it's like I've never been away!), and in line with that film meme that's doing the rounds, just thought I'd randomly spurt my thoughts on two films I've watched recently. No idea why they're both number-related, not intentional. There be spoilers here.
28 Days Later (2002)
Now, I've already seen this at the cinema, with Adam on my birthday. From what I remembered, the first half was really good. Tension, horror, and some quirky comedy thrown in, everything you want really. Then the second half translated as: WTF?!? When the editing is incredibly fast, all the men look the same, *and* you're not wearing your glasses, it's really hard to tell what's going on, and to who. One bloke I thought was dead turned up ten minutes later.
Anyway, gave it a re-watch on DVD, and delighted to say the second half is much better than thought. Once you can see what's happening, use a pause button, and have Danny Boyle explain everything to you.
I still, however, think it was unnecessarily brutal. Cillian Murphy is a really good actor (um, kudos to him for spending his first scene in the nuddy) but I don't care much for the character. He's a .... nutjob.
Best thing here though is Brendan Gleeson, who's apparently going to be Harry Potter: GOF's Mad Eye Moody. He's loveable as Frank - although that's a problem in a sense because I just *knew* something horrible is going to happen to such a likeable character. And that scene brings a tear to my eye, mate.
Still, he gets the best line in the movie:
FRANK: (Homer Gurgle) "Mmmm, irradiated."
Twenty-One (1991)
Ooh, look at how random I'm being! I'm willing to bet no one on my flist is particularly familiar with this small British film from over a decade ago. Basically, a young Patsy Kensit (who I've never had anything for before but IMHO she's kinda hot here) is 21 and trying to figure out what she's doing in life. Quite apt, considering I'm currently 21...and yeah.
It's one of those films that doesn't really go anywhere, but that's kind of the point. It's more of an exploration than a narrative, although Kensit's character Katie very kindly narratives directly to camera. In one scene she's on the toilet while she talks about yet another of her shags. How this is done so it's totally normal and tasteful is beyond me, but brilliant nonetheless.
The whole film's very 90s, and for some reason it was in a weird blue tint that's rather nice.
And in case you're wondering, yes I did have an ulterior motive for watching it (*holds hand up in air*). Mr Robert Bathurst turns up in a couple of scenes to buy a car off Katie's Dad, and she flirts with him something rotten. Here he's incredibly young, skinny, and posh.
(and dark-haired again for those wondering).
So, there you go. Film review with kolaqube. Just much more random and biased.
