Food for your thoughts....literally.

Damnit. I should stop posting at such inappropriate hours. Anyway...
I'm always amazed by the Japanese people. They come up with the most hilarious, innovative, creative, and silly things but most of the time you can't help but be awe-struck when you see them doing something down right spectacular. Making art, i mean literally, out of food is one of them. Just to be accurate and specific, it's those adorable packed lunches you usually see kids eat. When I see how amazingly detailed and creative these packed lunches (or bento as they are properly called) are, I just have to ask how do they get enough time to make them! To show you what I mean, here are some scans of the book, "Face Food Recipes" by Christopher D. Salyers (which I almost read that as Slayers XD), that showcases some of these amazingly artsy packed lunches.

Cover of book. Just in case any of you might be interested, it's about $15 and might be a little bit expensive for quite a small book (just barely 80 pages) but I thought it was worth it. It also includes the tools and techniques that have been used to create these wonderful lunches. There are even some simple Japanese recipes thrown in for those eager fans of Japanese culture.

This one was just plain adorable. Simple and cute.

(I've included a link to larger image for each bento so you could read the comments and tips. Tell me if there's anything wrong with the links or images.)

If you think anime is all the Japanese like, check this one out.
It's your popular neighborhood spidey dropping by for lunch.

A little something for the traditional art majors (at least i think it's related to traditional art). I have no idea who Alphonse Mucha is but his "Laurel" is apparently widely respeceted and popular.

This is for all you pokemon lovers out there (including me XD). I'm not surprised pokemon has been made into food but this is my first time seeing them crafted. XD

This one is for the Zelda fans on my flist (though Diane's the only one i'm sure of). What i'm most impressed with is how the words are so finely and accurately cut. That takes some serious concentration and careful hands!

[EDIT]
This one's for the popular Detective Conan, at the request of lunaoh. :D

There are other popular series/characters included: Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Hello Kitty, Care Bear (yes, you read it right), Astro Boy, Detective Conan, another pokemon, Humpy Dumpty, etc. If anyone wants to see those, I'm more than happy to comply. XD
I hoped you enjoyed these! I'm planning to get another book similar to this one, so you might see some of that as well.
