in the mail today we got:

*yet another bill from my useless sinus infection emergency room visit during our vacation over the summer. this one from the doctor who spent 2 seconds shining a flashlight up my nose. $75, so nothing devastating, but we already paid the $100 ER co-payment, so I'm not sure why our insurance isn't covering it. the state cancelled out the 2% pay increase they gave teachers this year by making our insurance suck a lot. we pay something like $150/month for our part of the premium and then the co-payments all went up this year AND there's all this new complicated co-insurance and deductibles which I can't figure out at all. But apparently what it means is that we go to the dr. and pay our newly expensive co-payments and then a few weeks later we might or might not get another random bill for $100 or so with some indecipherable explanation about why we have to pay it.

*a birthday card for dave from his parents with a check for $50. which will mostly go to non-birthdayfun stuff. although he might go bowling on thursday because I'm not very mad at him anymore.

*a Visa check card wtih $60 to spend on it--our special bribe for switching our natural gas company. but I didn't think I signed up for the right plan to get it, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

so, all in all, we're up $35 for the day, so I guess I can't complain.

I've realized I really need to get xmas shopping done, like, now, since I'll be too busy having a baby to do it when I normally would. what do 2 1/2 year olds like these days? I think we're doing bikes for the big santa presents (and then we'll really have to move next to the park, because there's nowhere to ride around here) and ari wants walkie talkies. and he likes games. but milo mostly likes our penguin-shaped ice cream scoop, so he's stumping me a bit. I have two boys who have no more than a casual interest in cars or trucks. it's kind of weird. other boys come over to play and manage to find every wheeled vehicle in the house in a matter of minutes. my kids....eh. they could take them or leave them.
