Nooooooooooo!
The anguished NO above is thanks to the Death Note 2 movie titled the Last Name. I'm cursing and swearing at the guy who wrote the screen play. The reason being I'm horribly disgusted and horribly horrified at the ending! It went a million miles away from the manga and it was so pasted on and moralistic "oh good wins evil at last" - not to mention sappy!
Good grief! Bad enough that all the mind games and other clever details were left out of the movie completely, bad enough that the third kira went from a businessman to a 'bimbo-warped' female news person but the ending tops the list man. I'm not a supporter of Light, I like L's quirks too and yes I did feel it's a waste that the manga killed off L and added in the two weird 'twins' BUT I don't like this ending of Light getting killed and then L dies too! It reeks too much of a "oh no, the manga is too long - let's just butcher it and just paste on a happily-ever-after good-triumph-evils ending and that's it". There's basically no development of L and Light's character or relationship and that's the crux of Death Note! Rrrrrrrrrr...
I feel that I really wasted my time watching the movie now :( I hate such movies with such endings. I was so going to rewatch the Death Note 1 movie and now I don't even want to touch it anymore. My worst fear now is the final book of Harry Potter will do the same. If JKR does a last name ending I think I can just burn all my harry potter books already. Arghhhhhh!
