So, I am obsessed with Tron-
What little computer fan girl isn't?
A new Tron: Legacy poster was released today, and it looks remarkably like the original Tron poster. Coinicidence? I think not. Movie companies do this a lot in order to entice others to watch it. Don't remember Tron? Well, maybe you'll remember the iconic image of Tron and how he is holding the disc over his head.
What intriquied me was the changes made from the 1982 Tron poster and the 2010 Tron: Legacy poster. Other than the Legacy one being clearer, notice the other differences.
As you can first see, the second image is more focused on their faces while the original is a silhouette. The Tron poster is no longer about the power and embodiment of the characters, but of the characters themselves.
Then, look at their positions. He is holding the disc up high while she is leaning on him seductively. This is obviously not the case in the original Tron poster.
Also, note something interesting in the background? The background! In the original, it is a black background with the only detail being the holy aura around Tron (right under his you-know-what) and the ground. Now, there is an aura around the characters but most of the background focuses on the object. The ships, the ground, the sky, etc. More eye candy, which really appeals to our younger generation today.
Finally, hair on the characters? In the original Tron, as you can tell from the image, their heads are perfectly round! They all wore caps to show no hair. Now, they are much more human than before.
What's the moral of the story? Movies now focus on the looks, the action and the sexual appeal.
I'm still looking forward to the new Tron: Legacy movie (12/17/2010) but I found this image analysis quite interesting.
