The report released today
on the New Orleans Katrina hospital deaths as possible homicides really disgusts me. I remember a few days after Katrina hit that the BBC had an article on the possible homicides witnessed by nurses. It wasn't until many months later that anything showed up in the US on this.
I am more infuriated at our justice system all the time but I'm really ticked about this. Last year or so the prosecutor dropped all charges. The investigators were stunned at the time and I waited and waited for the report to be released so I could decide for myself if homicide was committed. Well the report was finally released and I am surprised that all charges were dropped against the doctor considering the evidence they had.
I kept thinking of my grandmother. Some of those patients killed were not near death. They were very alive, coherent and stated they wanted to live. I know it was hot, a pain, but your job is to take care of your patients, not to kill them when you don't want to deal with them anymore. It a complete lack of regard for human life. It's relegating someone's relative to the worth of a candy wrapper. I am disgusted and angry that this is not prosecuted. I am just disgusted.
