Etymology or entymology...I can never remember which.
Just for future reference, I'll keep this page updated with etymologies for the naming of all of my Cummingses. :)
Generation One
The naming scheme only started being futuristic around Gen.2, just so you know.
Lily E. Cummings
Her name is just a pun, really, as the 'E' isn't short for anything. Lily E. Cummings translates to Lil' E. E. Cummings, or e. e. cummings. (It made more sense in my head.)
Generation Two
In general, the children of this generation were given the weirdest names I could think of that were still reasonable. I mean, c'mon, any children of Goopy GilsCarbo just can't have normal names. It's like a rule.
Podkayne Cummings
She is named for Podkayne of Mars, one of the only female narrators that Robert Heinlein wrote.
Dagny Cummings
She is named for Dagny Taggart from Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Not my favorite book in the world, but I thought the name suited her.
Thorby Cummings
He is named for the main character of Robert Heinlein's Citizen of the Galaxy.
Oryx Cummings
She is named for the titular female character of Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake.
Slartibartfast Cummings
He is named for the designer of Norway in Douglas Adams's Hitchhiker's Guide series. Because everyone would name their kid that if they could get away with it.
