A La Mode 38 : A day of Pekorin's Human Form
This is KKPC ep 38 review.
~Prologue~
This ep is Pekorin ep after ep 7 (that's very long!). From ep 7 to here, it is a very big jump to Pekorin. This ep is supposed to explain Pekorin's development after she encounters certain incidents which make her grow. If Pekorin's involvement in the series is enough, she deserves to have this ep. Unfortunately, instead of saying her not deserving this ep, she is not qualified to come here yet. You can see in this ep that her cooking stays up to ep 7 (the Pekorin donut), while KKPC creates so many dishes after ep 7, and she is along. The writer knows it very well. Hence, we can't expect Pekorin suddenly changes to human like Kirarin to Ciel. You can see that the writer uses Cure Lumiere like a cheat code. Pekorin dreams of her, so she can become human. She can use kirakiraru to protect Precure also because of Lumiere.
This ep is actually important to the mascot character in this series. Since Ciel can be human, Pikario in next ep is in human form too (he wakes up next ep), there should be an ep for Pekorin to be a human, as in giving her a chance to experience her human life. I would say it is one of the main writer's (Tanaka Jin) style. In GPPC, he gave an ep for Aroma and Puff to be humans ep 15, and they stayed in mascot forms until the epilogue. Aroma and Puff are different from Pekorin. They are Royal Fairies. They need to work hard to become human forms. Yes, just like Ciel, only that their titles tells us that they can possess the power to be human, whereas neither Ciel or Pekorin don't have any special power to be human.
If you think of Pekorin's development after watching this ep and/or reading my comment above, you may have the similar question to asiafan: "Why this ep is existed?" In the beginning of this ep, it only describes Pekorin's daily life, which is slightly more details than ep 7. After she obtains her human form, what she can do? Buying things on her own and making sweets. Making sweets is not new to her because she can do it in mascot form too. Buying things on her own...this is the human development, not the mascot development. If we look at her buying things on her own as her growth, then we can see from Miku. She can even go to Akira's home by bus on her own. Up to here, it means there is nothing to see in this ep? No. There is only one thing to see here:
Pekorin's daily life in human form, as in a day in human form.
If you don't intend to seek for her development, you watch it as her another daily life of Pekorin, and/or you long for her ep, this is the ep for you. In this ep, you can see the contrast between her mascot and human life. To be honest, her human life is way more capable than her mascot form (unlike Elderly). It is why I have a good impression on her human form, even though this ep cannot achieve her development. It is okay for her human daily life, but not okay for her development. About her design, I think of Doremi's Hana-chan or Pop more than a grandma...well, the character designer is under Umakoshi, so I understand why she designs in this way.
For the fight, although some of you said that Grave's power up (Diable car) is useless, but if you notice Cure Lumiere when Pekorin boosts her power, then you may think that Precure is more useless because they just rely more on Cure Lumiere after getting her creamer. Diable Car is not weak at all, or it can be said that it is much stronger than Diable itself. The power setting in this ep is quite ok, but the whole fight is not ok. The presentation is too Pekorin-oriented, and the kirakiraru ring is not appealing. In the whole fight, only Parfait is useful in repect to attack Grave's car.
This ep is an improvement for the writer who writes ep 4,7, 13,18, 21 (which I critiqued seriously that certain KKPC fans shout at me). I think he had been trained on writing after ep 21 as he doesn't participate in writing this series until this ep. In this ep, at least I can see he can manage to provide a story with smoother actions comparing to his past eps.
~Sweet Mountain~
Welcome to Sweet Mountain! Please focus on Pekorin's daily life in this section.

Although Pekorin is not as good as Kirarin, her cooking skill is much better than Ichika. Occasionally, she did help KKPC to make sweets, so her cooking skill has improved somehow. However, her improvement is not enough to be admired by others in the left picture.
Basically, her daily life in mascot form is just making sweets> brushing teeth...
Why Kirarin appears in her daily life? Currently, Kirarin/Ciel is the only media can go to or fro between two places.

Such simple mascot life can't make her be human...Cure Lumiere, it is your time now!
Powering up in the dream is not a new thing. MGPC has the first attempt in MGPC ep 29.
After having power up dream, she becomes a human.
Kirarin and Mascots: E-----!?
For the reason why Pekorin becomes human, Elderly has something to say.
Elderly: To be human, the fairy must be grown mentally first, Jaba.
Yes, we had already known, then?
Elderly: Actually, I don't really know why she becomes human!
KKPC: (fainted!)
Not only KKPC, I also don't have any expectation on his explanation to Pekorin's human change, as he doesn't know about "dream power up".
It is precious for her human form, so she has to do something - shopping in Strawberry Town.
She is just a child, let's start with this simple task.
Similarly to Coco's situation in YPC5 ep 37, she is attracted by sweets too. Luckily, she can discipline herself.
KKPC follows her all the way. The description is like the parents following the child at the back to see whether the child does properly on those parenting program. It is weird to me because KKPC are helped by Pekorin (esp. Ichika) more than KKPC taking care of her as the parents. Ciel is understandable since they live and grow up together as the mascots, but others ...... owing to the lack of their relationship writing (not just Ichika, but for every member), they won't be worried like that. Moreover, Pekorin knows this town much better than KKPC too. Their attitude, according to the writing so far, should be similar to Yukari and Akira.
Finally, she reaches her destination - supermarket! She plays with the baby boy too happily that she changes back to mascot form!
KKPC: E----!?
It is reasonable because she can't control this power very well.
but she manages to hide somewhere to change back into human form. (Perhaps she learns it from Ciel)
The baby boy knows her change, but it doesn't matter, he is just a baby,
Later, she finds that she lost her pouch! How she lost her pouch?
When she changes back to mascots, the pouch is dropped to that trolley.
I can think of how she lost, but Pekorin can't. She tries to find where her pouch is and even asks the shopkeeper about this.
but Pekorin...are you forgetting something? Where is your trolley?
Ah...well..the focus is her pouch, as long as her pouch is found, even her shopping bag is lost, it doesn't matter.
Anyway, Pekorin can feel the people's kindness in the town.
As an educational children story, they won't let Pekorin lose anything. The shopping bag is with her.
For this scene, I disagree with Ichika's overaction. The reason is her bond with Pekorin is not parent-child relationship. She can't reach the relationship like FPC to Chiffon or DDPC to Ai-chan. Aoi's parental statement actually can't be existed.
It is hard on the clay monsters...to take the eyecatch for Grave, they need to push Diable car...
Don't worry, you all will be the main characters next ep!
Pekorin's "Let's la. cooking", she has the cutest pose in this series.
It is more convenient to make Pekorin Donut with her human body. I thought Ichika does teach her to make other mascots' Donut...
Well, we can't expect she can remember so much.
Ciel: When seeing this, everyone are in the circle, Parfait....
It is quite forced to associate sitting in the circle to Pekorin's Donut. You can see in the scene that the donut image is Pekorin Donut. For the circle, there are many desserts associate with the circle. I understand the writer is trying to express the union of human, mascot and animal. This is also the idea of sharing desserts to different spices. However, donut is not the good choice as they can eat as a whole piece. Baumkuchen is also in circle, and it is a cake form that it can be shared. Moreover, if you compare with ep 7, ep 7 does better job than here because the donut decoration is not just Pekorin Donut. Besides the donut problem, the most important point which I think this association doesn't work is...
Ciel is not in the circle! How can she be excluded from the circle? If the writer wants the explanation, let Elderly do it! He is nothing to do.
Owing to the fight, Pekorin loses her power to be the human. You may feel pity, but if you think back her development, it is reasonable.
It is just a magical day for Pekorin, but it doesn't mean that she can't be human in the future (only that Toei can't wait for that long). As long as she works as hard as Ciel, she can be human as well. It is a meaningful day for Pekorin to help KKPC and thank all the people in human form (as if it is the finale...)

After she uses up her power, she becomes the Pekorin we know.
I apprepicate Pekorin saving Precure (so nostalgic), but how Precure counterattack is not appealing...esp this olympic pose.
Although Parfait casts a beautiful attack, the result is not pretty at all...don't even say they use others' kirakiraru again...
If the writer want to express the circle, Animal Go-round actually has the best description of circle.

You can see Grave doesn't defeat at all, only Diable car is injured. It means they need more power up.

In ep 34 review, I did comment about animal can't eat dessert. Pekorin in this ep said those desserts are for certain animals.
For grasshopper, she gives a small pudding. If you find what the grasshopper eat:

You won't think that it can eat pudding, because it is not easily digested for animals.
However, what she prepares for birds and cats are ok. Biscuits and crumbles are possible snacks for birds and cats.
but eating Pekorin Donut is not possible.
As Pikario is going to appear next week, the writer quickly mentions about his status. Also, he tells us that Pekorin and Kirarin often visit him, only that the series never shows. Anyway, let's look forward Pikario becomes another Kanata event. (just nice next ep is ep 39)
The Op and ED continues movie promotion. No wonder Pikario loses to his sister, he is sleeping during the lesson!
About the Koala Bear look Gelato, it seems KKPC behave like the certain animals in the movie. TV can't achieve the animal theme, perhaps the movie achieves it well.
I don't know why they still can run away from the monster after powering up?
About the power up form....when I know the pudding dresses are going to be the TV power up later, I think I prefer them wearing this to cast Animal Go-round.
Nevertheless, I am more curious of the left picture - from Japanese wiki, it seems MGPC does help KKPC in the battle.
I heard that the movie sales is good...I think if it is not good, Toei's risk of having MGPC in the movie is wasted...The Petit Dream Stars seems to be a cooking show among GPPC + MGPC and KKPC mascots.
Er....this is just drawing error that I don't want to show it in Sweets Mountain. Comparing to that olympic rings, it is just a minor mistake.
Now I should talk about this cheat code - Cure Lumiere. If you ask me the relationship between Pekorin and Lumiere....it is...
a. Lumiere is her target
b. Pekorin "carries" Lumiere's creamer to Precure
Although Lumiere is her dream, she hasn't reach that...for her skill, she just stays up to ep 7. Comparing to Ciel's hard work, even dream power up cannot be achieved.
How MGPC dream power up works? Firstly, someone wishes or desires on that object at that moment. Even though Lumiere is Pekorin's dream, her thought of being patissier is less than Ciel. I don't know if Ciel will dream of Lumiere in the movie (although I don't think so), but if she dreams of Lumiere, her case is more reasonable than Pekorin.
Here is how Pekorin uses her power to drive Diable car away. Actually, this is Lumiere's power, not Pekorin's own power.
She is not like Ciel. Ciel uses her own power to change to human, but Pekorin is not.
Elderly: Ah...What if you use too much power...?
I thought you should know it the best, Elderly?
In ep 7, Elderly told us that he becomes a ghost due to use up his power to drive the bad fairies away.
As I comment before, Elderly should not have human form if Pekorin's theory here applies. (Pekorin's theory is that without enough kirakiraru, he/she can't be human.) Elderly's ghost form and Pikario's current status are the evidence of kirakiraru shortage.
As I said above, I disagree with Ichika's parental behaviour, so does here. These fairies are her friends, not caretakers. If the description means Pekorin is more childish than them, I think it is not a praise to Pekorin.
I thought Diable car possesses Diable's power? Why the mascots are just fainted?
