So…. Sirius Black. Yeah. I don’t think I’m ever gonna really get over him.

I was digging through my old Sirius art, and I realized… a couple of things, actually. First is that I have actually improved since college, which is a very happy thing to realize because I often feel like I’ve totally stagnated since then. But no, my faces have more personality, I’m better at adding age lines (possibly because I now have a few of my own for reference) and my anatomy has seriously improved.

Ha. Siriusly.

I also realized that the last time I drew Sirius it was at a rather different skill level. Most of it really doesn’t look very good to me anymore. And that’s just tragic, because Sirius deserves to be well-drawn.

I also realized that I never did quite manage a picture of post-Azkaban!Sirius that worked for me, even at the time, partly because I had trouble with age-lines and partly because I was so caught up in worrying about age-lines that I got distracted from the more important aspect, which is making him just the right kind of crazy. I said somewhere that I didn’t like Gary Oldman’s Sirius because he was the wrong kind of crazy, too gibbering and not enough dark.

So hey, let’s fix all that.

Or we could fail and make more mediocre art where the face is the only thing I put time into. Blah. Actually I put a ton of time into the anatomy of the back and hips, getting him to twist just right... and then covered all that up with a robe, and then hated the way the robe draped and tried to cover it up with shadow. Oh hey, I remember this about HP fanart! %^$&^$ robes.
