(no subject)
So, anyone know that issue of Batgirl where Cass sneaks to Smallville to see Kon, and they are very cute but also horribly drawn? As an exercise, I decided to re-draw part of it. One page so far, not sure if I'll do another
If you don't know the comic I mean, here is the page I'm doing:
At first my plan was to just redraw it in my own style, whatever that is. But my style is still... finding itself, and that somehow didn't seem to motivate me to finish. So I though, let's try to imitate someone else again! And since the definitive Superboy for me has always been those ten issues by Joke Kelly, I went with the artist who drew (most of) them.

When I first read the Joe Kelly run, I actually didn't really like the art. I didn't hate it like I do the first scan, but it wasn't naturalistic enough for my taste. Looking at it now though, it's really grown on me. It's so... fluid and energetic. It's a good fit for the character.
It's really hard for me to copy, though; this thing totally kicked my butt. Imitating Maguire was one thing; it's actually not that far from how I try to draw, really. And there's such an emphasis on expressions, which I'm pretty good with. But Pascual's got so much movement going on, and movement I'm really not that good with. So, it's probably a good thing to study more.
Anyway, here's my attempt to redraw the Batgirl page as though Pascual had done it:
I... will probably not color any future pages I might draw. That was serious, intense, time-consuming work, work I'm not all that good at, and work that is not relevant to what I actually want to do professionally.
Also: am I the only one who just can't picture Kon caring much about sports? I was originally going to copy all the stuff in Kon's room from the first one, but when I got to it, I was like "but why would he have a baseball bat? There is no way he ever plays baseball. Unless it's to stop an alien invasion."
