I didn't want to make some huge post about an OC that I will probably never actually do anything with, but. She's also the kneeling girl in the day % sketch here. So, a girl. I wanted her to be very masculine and easy to mistake, but there is still also room to see her as a girl, right? *nervous* I am never quite sure if other people can see what I see in my drawings.
Her name is Caitlin but she prefers Cai, and she's supposed to be vaguely Celtic in an open-to-creative-liberties kinda way. She gets super-strength from her town's patron goddess to rescue her best-friend/love-interest from... something. And is generally very kind and sweet and sincere, and also kind of feels like she should have been a man.
Oooh. Vaguely Celtic sounds good. Also recently I'm reading Northlanders, which is set during the Viking age, and is very historically accurate with design and stuff, so obviously I'm loving all over the art. Also it's DC, hey
( ... )
Those are alot of the same things I kept thinking, and she was more shapely before I added the clothes over top of the body-sketch. Her waistline bulked out a bit, and also what effort I'd made at having some cleavage got covered up. I should probably have gone over it again after, but part of me was so pleased that the clothing had made her look more masculine! Ah, well, live and learn.
I'm glad the face works, though, since I feel like that's the most sensitive part. I fussed over it for a while in a number of other doodles, giving her a jawline that was square enough without having too much chin.
I also spent some time worrying about the arm muscles. She was way too buff in the first round, so I googled "female bodybuilders" and tried to slim her arms down to match what I saw. But I was really reluctant to give up too much of her bulk--do you think her arms look plausible for a woman here, or do I need to bite the bullet and slim them down some more?
The arms look plausible for a really strong woman. If she were only, you know, fit, then it would be a bit bulky, but for basically bodybuilder, then I feel like it works, at least if you make her a bit more curvy.
Maaaybe just slightly bigger eyes. And I've seen jawlines like that on women, and yeah, it's good. (Besides that it's not symmetrical, but I assume that's not a design thing. Also I remember how frikkin hard it is to get jawlines symmetrical.)
You don't need to do all that much cleavage, but when she has her arms down, just some slight hints in the folds/shading would be good. I feel like sliiightly slimmer waist, and that shape of the thighs (just below the hips, the widest part of the legs/hips) would go a long way.
...The hands might be a bit big, proportionwise. My hands (admittedly small) aren't anywhere near that big/reach that far. But really, it's just subtle differences I think are needed.
(Her face is supposed to be at a slight angle, though, and... and, if it bothers viewers, then it's wrong. *le sigh*)
It's kind of hilarious that I'm having this problem, actually. Remember when all my men looked like women? Though, I think this isn't so much about me being unable to draw women, as it is about some semi-subconscious rebellion against overly-frail and girly portrayals of female characters.
I've been considering the breast size. Part of me feels like larger breasts, in combination with muscle tone, make the upper body in general seem bigger in proportion to the hips, and make the overall build seem more sturdy and powerful. On the other hand, cheesecake. I'm debating with myself. I should probably try drawing both to see what I like best.
Actually, I should probably GO TO BED and stop waiting for Kirt to text me, since I'm supposed to pick her up from the airport in 4 hours. She's probably already on the plane by now and just forgot to reply.

...Also the art is cool, did I mention that? It was implied in me needing to know who it is.
