Kell art today! Oh Kell, you are so under-appreciated, but I will always love you.

More from the fanart 50.

Prompt 18: Cold

It’s snowing on Altaris 3. It’s not white like it had been before Imperiex’s army burned the forests in the southern hemisphere and turned the sky black with soot, but soot-gray snow is still snow, and still means that the temperature is below freezing. Which is bad, because it means that the human contingent of the resistance is shivering and numb and won’t be at peak efficiency when the attack finally comes. Superman waits, crouched out in front of the front lines listening for the enemy, but all he can hear are chattering teeth.

Hours pass, night falls, and then there’s a new sound. “Thanks,” one of the men says, and another replies “no problem.” There are footsteps as others move to join the two, and Superman can tell that they’re drinking something.

“Best coffee I’ve ever had in my life,” says a woman. “It always tastes better when you’re cold,” says someone else, laughing. Superman allows himself a brief glance backward to see them gathered together and taking turns drinking out of a thermos. They’re smiling. He turns back to stare out at the dark.

They don’t offer him any, but that’s to be expected. He doesn’t get cold.
