1. 3 gratitudes--list three new things that you're grateful for each day.
2. Journaling--write about one positive thing that happened in the past 24 hours each day
3. Exercise
4. Meditation--teaches you to focus on the task at hand, to be in the now
5. Random acts of kindness--perform one each day
Welcome to another beautiful day in my life. The weather is really gorgeous here in San Rafael (and in my home of San Francisco too). And it's a good day to start life anew.
Oh that reminds me...this former colleague of mine used to walk into my department (back when we worked in different departments), stretch, and say "It's a great day to be a planner!" I don't know why that's funny, but it is.
Oh I should go add that to the board. We have a white board that's devoted to his sayings. Naturally that means the white board never gets erased and is useless as a white board. Whenever I suggest erasing it, I get shot down. I don't mind, though, because I am one of this guy's keen admirers.
So, for "Win Every Day," today I'm going to get halfway through Sunday March 2012 trip lists and will stay focused, attentive, and alert at my morning meeting and successfully advocate for my department's priorities. I also will bathe and weigh Pete, change the parrots' cage papers and let the parrots out to play. They really have not gotten much play time this week!
Jade doesn't really play much, but she likes to follow me around and be with me. That will make her happy, I think. But Parry really needs some play time.
That's an ambitious list again. I'll admit that I didn't do a very good job cleaning the kitchen table for my "Win Every Day" of two days ago. But I did take a stab at it.
Also, today I will write a little more about the divorce.
I really am ambitious for myself.
I just want to say last night was Back to School night, and I got two nice compliments for my daughter. The Chemistry teacher said "She's solid. She really gets it." She was thrilled and kept saying "I'm solid. I'm solid." LOL And her AP Euro History teacher said "She's great. I love having her in my class." Yay. And I really liked her English teacher, who I didn't get to meet, but I thought she was the sort of teacher I would enjoy. That was comforting, even though F. and I don't necessarily enjoy the same people and things. I think she was really happy I went. She definitely was encouraging me :)
Okay, on with the show.
Three gratitudes
1. I'm grateful for teachers, for dedicated teachers, for thoughtful teachers, for resourceful teachers. Without them I'd be nowhere and the same for my kids.
2. I'm grateful for the people who challenge me and push my buttons, because they force me to get my shit together.
3. I'm grateful for the Weight Watchers Home Style Recipes cookbook and turkey cabbage burgers. Yum.
Act of kindness: I have a new routine of stopping by Denise's office on the way upstairs and checking in with her. We high-fived over its being Friday today. ANd I had a really nice exchange with Felicia in the parking lot during which I noticed that it really is hard for me to believe that she likes someone like me. Note to self: Caution, you are entering a low-self-esteem area. Watch your step!
What else? Nice chanting session this morning; skipped last night because EXHAUSTED from Back to School Night.
Okay this was super chatty.
Oh oh oh though I have to say, I went back and looked at how long ago I started these posts, and my anniversary will be October 12. Which is funny because then it will average out very close to one post per week. That's not too bad. Not great, but not bad at all. And it shows persistence.
I'll have to do a special anniversary post.
