Demyx has heard stories about creatures that dwell in the sea since before his heart was stolen.
His father (not his, perhaps, but close enough) had told him tales about crabs the size of islands and whales the size of empires, and the tricks to avoid them. He’s heard about men who have slain these creatures and men who have fallen to them, and he’s learned to fear them well enough.
That didn’t change the fact that he had absolutely no clue what to do when he found himself face to face with a gargantuan squid.

The Kraken had heard stories about creatures that dwell above the sea since before it was large enough to consume ships (even when broken into small pieces).
That didn’t change the fact that it had absolutely no clue what to do when it awoke to find itself face to face with a weird animal it had previously assumed was mythical.
A weird animal that was sucking on its tentacle rather seductively.
