Riku didn’t know, but the sedative was weak. Dissolving already. Soon he would fall back into shadows and half-lives, and remember not-quite-enough. Leon saw he was losing his patient, and his fists both tightened into the dirty hair. “Look at me,” he hissed, rocking Riku’s head back and forth. And Riku did see, for a little while, anyway. Leon saw fear and respect and confusion, and yes, fury, the white-hot fury of a victim who didn’t deserve the harm, and who was already planning revenge.
And then he thrust again, kissed the boy again, and bit down on the scabbed lower lip just as he came. He embraced Riku as he pulled out, and lifted the boy with him, like a doll. Riku went up limply, and fell back the same way. The drug had disappeared and with it, the period of semi-lucidity. The dreamworld came back into Riku’s bizarre, broken mind, and the overwhelming desire to live above the rules faded, a little, from Leon’s semi-sanity. He kissed the boy’s forehead, gently. He had more sedatives and he would mess with the dosage the next time. But for now he guided Riku to his feet, and tightened the straps of the straightjacket. Riku would sleep easy that night, secure in dreams of mazes and darkness and blurred edges. He would sleep thinking of the tormented Leon and the brave Squall, and forget his real life’s white-toothed doctor for a while.
