ARGH!! i just wrote a huuuuuge comeback post and then lost it! nooooooo!!!!
start again!
i return from my neglect of the el-jay to regale you with tales of my Foo weekend, which started and ended with Everlong live....
left at 6:15 Friday morning to pick up Jenny from her flat and go to Central Station for our train. got there and waited and waited til it arrived spot on 7:42. managed to catch about half an hour of sleep but we arrived at Kings Cross at about 10:45. (wish i could get the train more often, but you only get cheap seats if you plan well ahead!)
we went down to Covent Garden for something to eat and do a little shopping, as we couldn't check into the hotel til 3pm. went in the Paul Frank shop, where i saw the coolest Julian doll thing, he was a vampire Julian, i want him!
went along to Cybercandy where i spent £5 on like 4 things :o, then went to Scribbler (card shop) to buy a funky postcard for my Dad, then found this nifty little Japanese import shop called Artbox, where i bought a few bits and bobs. then eventually we got checked into the hotel (Hilton Hyde Park, pet!) which was dead posh and really lush. our room had a view over Kensington Gardens, which for all intents and purposes is Hyde Park. we got changed and cleaned up, then headed straight for Camden, where Foos where playing a 400 capacity show in Underworld. and although we didn't have tickets (gutted) i was willing to try our luck.
saw Paul as soon as we got out of the tube station, waving at me across the road, so i went to find out the crack and say hello etc. met Pauls mum, bless her. we popped up to bots for a drink and food, bought a caramel shortcake, couldn't stomach it. Saw Stu, Kat and Mimi crossing the road as we came back. went and found Jade and Jane etc in the queue to say hello. wandered round the back with Jane to see if there were any developments. came back and i decided we should linger infront of the front doors, but not too close as i didn't want to seem 'too keen'. which was lucky.
then a guy from Foos 'entourage' (saw him in Hyde Park on the sunday and waved at him, hehe) came out and was asking if people had tickets. he came up to us first and said 'do you have tickets? no? well, the band had asked for a number of tickets to be held back for door sales, and we've just been given them, but we don't want the touts to know. so if you want to buy some go queue at that door. tell people you know don't have tickets but keep it quiet'
so we queued. got tickets. (we only just had the right cash. lucky.) was shaking like a leaf the whole hour we stood queueing.
gig was friggin mint. best i've seen them play together in a long time. Dave sang properly, no shouting every word like at big gigs, and they were all just gelled, on top form, no fuck ups, just playing together as a whole.
Dave was saying that it was great to be in a tiny sweatbox again, and it brought back some great memories. then he got all sappy and was thanking everyone for coming, and thanking us 'harcore geeks' for supporting them for 10 or 11 years, and that he hoped we'd stick around for another 10 or 11 years, because it looked like they were gonna (EEEEEEE!!!!)
managed to get right forward to second from the barrier (i didn't force my way in, cause i hate when people do that, just went with the natural movement of the crowd, taking advantage of spaces and gaps :D )
setlist was:
Everlong
Low
Hey, Johnny Park
Monkey Wrench
Times Like These
DOA
For All The Cows
Breakout
No Way Back
Stacked Actors
My Hero
Generator
Aurora
All My Life
encore (not played, but i would have LOVED to see in that environment)
In Your Honor
This Is A Call
Best of You
saw everyone after the show finished, and Jane gave me a Dave Grohl plec (omgz!), and we hung out for a bit, then went round the back but there were LOADS of people hanging around so we left. and as we were collecting ourselves near the tube station Stu Kat and Mimi went by, so i said hi. (Stoof, apologies for my gross sweatiness when you hugged me, if was proper ming)
got back to the hotel, showered and into the lush comfy Hilton bed.
Saturday - got up, showered and dressed, had breakfast (a bit of fruit cause i was too excited to eat) then went to Hyde Park to fathom the mythical gate numbers. found our gate and settled in at about 10:30.
at about 1:30 they gave out our wristbands and started the queue properly. we got in, peed in the still spotless portaloos.
got into the Gold Circle where there was a fucking walkway down the middle, so me and Jen were separated from EVERYONE else. but luckily we were pretty much directly opposite on each side of the walkway. so sign language and random texting was our means of communication.
on to the actual show....
Juliette and the Licks - i thought they sucked nadgers, proper crap. i cannot stand Juliette Lewis, especially when she's jiggling around in a lycra jumpsuit. so i thought it was hilarious to see her shatting herself after she in her infinite wisdom decided to crowd surf, and they took her further and further away from where she wanted to be. the look of horror on her face will stay with me forever. hahaha.
Angels and Airwaves - no i don't mind that song they released recently. but their whole set seemed to merge into a long half hour song of 'yyyyoooooo-ooooooo, eeeeyyoooooooooo'-ing and Tom waving his arms like a mental patient, interspersed with preaching about changing the world and shit. however i did get to ogle Tom's arse so it's not all bad. however he couldn't resist getting a dick joke in there. ass.
Queens of the Stone Age - no Natasha, wooo, pluss points there. but boooo Ginger Ninja with dyed black hair and magic marker eyebrows, booooo. set was ok, had a few canny songs in there that were quite good, but it was let down by a load of new album songs mishmashed together with extended wanky guitar bits. overall, good, but bring Nick back!!!
Motorhead - too many people didn't get it. which sucked. but i thought they were great! never seen them before. but they were great, little bit let down to songs from random album from 1984 which no-one bought. i think i was rocking out amongst a bunch of people standing bored and a bunch of nobbers pretending to know the words to look 'cool'
and then there was Foo - i had a pretty good view for the most part. they were great, the atmosphere was insane. Dave was clearly excited as fuck cause he was running all over the place like a puppy dog. Chris was clearly shitting himself at the sheer volume of people. Nate just wasn't looking, and Tay kept having a kind of worried look on his face.
they had a few 'crowd pleaser' songs in the middle (LTF, Breakout and The One) cue us lot going on like prats, pretending to love it, haha.
and Dave ran down the walkway a couple of times, but he ran waaay to fast so i have a few mega blurry photos of him legging it. Lemmy came on to do Shake Your Blood, which was proper quality. Dave and Chris did a bit of guitar duelling from either end of the walkway during Stacked Actors, but shiflett was too scared to come very far along the thing. and then somehow, all of a sudden, it was over.
but not quite....
Tay came out and i was all 'woo, Cold Day in the Sun' but then the We Will Rock You intro started, and everyone started clapping along. then it clicked 'hey that's not dave drumming' (bear in mind i couldn't see shit for people clapping) then Brian fucking May appears, and it turns out it's Roger Taylor on drums. i. could. have. died.
they kick into Tie Your Mother Down, and THEN they come down the walkway, Brian May, Tay, and Dave. the May stops right infront of me, like two feet away. i was stood there in complete awe.
after that Dave ran down to the end of the walkway so that he was between the Gold Circle and the General Admission, to do Everlong, right in the middle of 85,000 people. immense. hearing all those people singing along was crazy.
i had a fecking great night.

went and bought a tshirt, met up with (nearly)everyone for a bit, said hi, hung out, and said bye. then we trundled off to McDonalds and back to the hotel. where i was so tired i didn't even get a shower before bed, cause i am scruffy mcscruff.
in the morning we had breakfast, got sorted, then went to Covent Garden to pick up a few things from the shops we'd been to on the Friday, then hung around Victoria Station til it was time to get the shitty Megabus home (note: please do not encourage the Megabus by using it, it is shitty, broken, cramped, slow, did i mention shitty?)
