Hostility character study (2/8): Jongin

Jul 27, 2013 23:38

background:
  • family: parents (father is the CEO of Kim Enterprise, mother an heiress of an aristocrat); an older brother, Kim Jonghyun
  • career: actor, active in the film industry both home and abroad (Hollywood); has quickly garnered international attention and domestic fame; years of experience: approx 5.
  • general: engaged to Diana via an arranged marriage; best/childhood friends: Wu Fan, Kyungsoo, Lay, Chanyeol
  • sexual history: extensive romantic/sexual experiences with women, mostly noncommittal. engagement with Diana is merely a nominal commitment, not physical nor emotional. prior experiences with men unknown, but presumably none before Luhan.
personality:

Jongin is a walking paradox. he's passionate, yet he's cold. he's ambitious, yet he's apathetic. he's extremely adamant once he recognizes something as a norm, yet he's easily shaken. this contributes to the massive internal conflicts he experiences once he becomes attached (though rather unknowingly) to Luhan.
the thing with Jongin is that he gets bored easily. he doesn't know what it feels like to strive or yearn for a goal. he's unfazed by the glamor and limelight of showbiz because it's too comparable to what he's grown up with. he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and there isn't anything he wants that he can't have (this also applies to the other four in the elite group). he's become rather jaded at such a young age; this is attributable to the ease with which he wears a facade in front of the public and for the camera. this may also be why he excels at acting.
he is very hot-tempered. he gets riled up easily, though he also effortlessly suppresses any context-inappropriate emotions. he gets easily consumed and torn apart by jealousy, confusion, and self-perceived injustice. however, he's also extremely loyal and patient with those he cares about the most.
it's difficult for him to let go of something once the possibility of ownership is planted inside his head. he is constantly driven by an unknown desire to possess, quite possibly because he has this overwhelming need to feel. he's dead inside. subconsciously, he's always searching for something that will wake up his soul and enable him to be human. by this point, he's tired of being physically involved and emotionally detached. he doesn't know it, but he longs to love and to be loved in return, just like every person with a beating heart and cogitating mind. in actuality, he has too much love to give but no one to give it to, until Luhan comes along. he consistently surprises himself by the words he utters and the actions he performs on behalf of this formless drive inside him that emerges to be selfless love. behind this aloof, cocky facade is a person who is willing to sacrifice all for the sake of love, and the infinity of his love will be his downfall (sorry i threw in a little foreshadowing here).
