Why are you here? -- Lorien, Babylon 5
When I look at the journey of my life, I'm amazed at the paths it's taken. What would I have thought if I could have foresaw today from when I was 14 years old?
How could I have known I'd become one of those "Christians" that I used to ridicule. I'd be boggled if I knew that we would no longer fear nuclear annihilation from the Soviet Union. I'd be amazed that I own a handful of computers, all connected and communicating with people around the world. No way could I have predicted that the cute girl sitting across the lunch table from me would be the future mother of my child.
How random life seems, and how quickly the days now pass. Truly life is a vapor, an amorphous entity that can't be fully grasped, yet we continue to try.
our days on earth are but a shadow -- Job 8:9
If life is a shadow, what is it a shadow of? Shadows depend on a light source to exist. The brighter the source, the stronger and more defined the shadow. They are temporary, lasting only as long as the light shines. However, the object of the shadow remains. We struggle at times to make sense of life. Perhaps we focus too much on the shadow itself and not on the light or what the light is illuminating.
Perhaps this life is a shadow of ourselves in eternity's light - a glimpse of things to come.
Shelter me in the shadow of Your wings -- Psalm 17:8
