So, we've had 4 storms that closed school in a span of 3 weeks. Last week we had two in the same week. We had one on Thursday, and now we are in for another Nor'easter this coming Wednesday. Don't get me wrong, I love these snow days-- this will be the last time I'll be able to enjoy them, so I am taking advantage of them while I can -- but the weather is starting to get ridiculous!
The last two years, if I am not mistaken, our winter storms we're not that bad. Prior to the past two years Moncton would always get the big winter storm out of all the maritimes. So, I guess we are back to where we used to be before? I notice that Halifax gets the hurricanes, and Moncton get's the blizzards. :O
Anyway. I have a font project due on the 18th, and my packaging design is due the 4th. I got a good start on my packaging design yesterday. I have a dummy box made. Whew! Measurements and calculations! I'm no good in math. We'll, it wasn't so bad. I just made it out of be worse than it actually was. Its when we get into the fractions that I get confused, so I try to measure out in a way that works for me Wow, I really need to brush up on my math skills.
I got a bottle that is slim and long, and it was originally blueberry wine. However, we're allowed to name our wine. So, I'm going to make it Sakura Sake. Cherry Blossom Blooming OR Cherry Blossom Rice Wine. It means both. Plus it's an Arashi song!
This time of year I yearn for spring, so I'm pretty excited for the "Sakura" theme I'm going with for my wine bottle packaging project.
I was also inspired by tale of Genji to paint Lady Murasaki with Cherry Blossoms and a Bush warbler :D Signifying Lady Murasaki's coming of age. ^^ I might sell it too! If I don't get too attached to her. I want to try and paint more, and make some money for my trip to Japan. So I think most of the paintings will be Japanese themed.
Oh, I coloured in the wrong eye of my Daruma doll that
subetehoshi got me. Whoops. So I painted it with white and coloured in the right eye. I coloured in MY right eye, but not the doll's right eye. I;m dumb sometimes.
OH YES. I WANT TO THANK ELIZABETH for all the awesome goodies she brought back from Tokyo for me! Daruma doll, Hello Kitty and ARASHI 5x10!!! :D I'm still so happy over the omiyage AND the ones from her first trip last summer. I hope to join you this fall. I'd love to go in spring, but I think waiting will be the best thing. That way I can continue to work out at the gym and make some extra cash.
If I get a Graphic Design job I will tell them straight out that I have a trip. If I don't get a job I will stay at the one I am at, and by that time I will have vacation pay. ^^ I wont have to worry about school then either.
So, If you wanna help me with my Japan fund please visit
http://www.yonasu.com I write for his Japanese entertainment blog. If I do 10...or is it 20 posts, depending on how well the blog does, I get some moneh. Either gift card of paypal. I'm thinking I will go with paypal. Originally I joined just to write about Japan and have people read. No one reads my Japan blog (at blogger) so I was excited to have people read and comment on my stuff. The money is an extra bonus But I realised that I could put it towards my Japan trip.
Also, when I post paintings, please, if you like it you can buy it. LOL! A lot of work gets put into them but they may or may not be cheap depending on some people's standards. But I can't apologise. I want them at a reasonable price, but given the time and effort that goes into them, I don't want to sell them for too little either. :O
---- Yesterday the delta beausejour (hotel) we advertising on twitter that they now brew starbucks! THey were giving out free starbucks, so I went there to get one. THey failed to mention that it did not include mocha's. (although someone tweeted that they got a caramel macchiato, but anyway) So, I paid for it _found my gift card, so I could have just gone to the one in chapters and got one_
but the mocha was pretty bad, First of all...I drank some and got this white sticky stuff in my mouth. (I know what you are thinking, cause I thought of it too, lol) But it was like a gel? Almost like that teeth whitening gel stuff...anyway, it had no taste. I spit it out. The lady said that the chocolate was supposed to be at the bottom...and I agreed because whenever I drink it, it goes to the bottom.
The mocha had a mild taste and wasn't overly sweet, which was fine, because I always find starbucks mocha's too sweet (the ones at cafe cognito are mild, which I like) but the more I drank the mocha the worse it tasted. :O I was thinking, YES downtown location for starbucks...but because its just hte cafe that brews starbucks its NOT THE SAME. They're house brew is probably ok, but no one but starbucks can brew starbucks.
Anyway,I was waiting for my mom to get off work so we could go together, btu she got a ride home from her boyfriend. They saw me on main street and stopped to say hi. Then, while I Was walking to the bank I saw Mariah on the number 7 bus, so I waved. THEN, I saw a man who comes into my work all the time across the street, so we waved to each other. (we call him the sobeys bag guy, cause he goes to sobeys then comes to Jean Coutu with his bags.) He is a really really nice older man. Always smiling and friendly!
Then, I walked up to St.George st to the new used book store "Folio" There were some books I wanted, but I just put money int he bank for rent, so I knew I shouldn't use it. I just wanted to see what he had. His art and design section is pretty small, but I'm hoping in the future to find some good books there. Also found some Haruki Murakami books. but one I own, and the other is just his diary while doing the NYC marathon...which I'm not too interested in. Sorry Haruki.
On my way home I ran into Aruna, a classmate of mine. She was waiting for her friend...Her friend was down the street, so we walked together for a bit. We were talking about a classmate who doesn't show up for classes hardly anymore and how she is very good at design. I was saying that its too bad, because she is really good at what she does. Aruna told me that a guy in my class used to look at her to challenge himself, but now he looks to me for a challenge. OMG.
I was like. Are you serious? I'm totally flattered, but I feel a bit pressured at the same time. Still, it really boosted my confidence.
Another confidence booster...we were asked by the Moncton Museum society to create a brochure so they could solicite donations for their photobook. Greater Moncton then and now....We all created one, and presented it to the class. We all got to vote for the 4 we thought should go to client. The 4 I chose were all chosen. (we were allowed to vote for ourself, which I did...and felt guilty over HOWEVER, If I hated my brochure I wouldn;t have done that. I'm very confident in my brochure.)
Anyway, I was chosen in the top 4. I saw the list of votes, and was relieved to see that even if I didn't vote for myself, I was still way ahead in votes. I wasnt the top...Chris and Megan tied for top, then me, then Leanne....(I think in that order...)
So, I was relieved over that. :)
Anyway. I only have about 40 minutes before work, so I think I am going to watch some NHK's "Begin Japanology" LOVE that show, and then get ready to work.
Everyone have a great day!
