Disclaimer: Yuugiou (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters) is the property of Takahashi Kazuki and respective publishers, including Shueisha, Studio Gallop, Nihon Ad Systems, Toei Animation, 4Kids, and others. I would never claim to own it or attempt to make money off of it- just think of this as a written, free doujinshi and hopefully we'll get along fine ;)

Towards the Future

Malik knows the path of the river well. He has not traveled it himself, and has no plans of doing so for many years, but he has sent enough men down it himself to have some familiarity with it. And, too, it is the path he will deny the Pharaoh, burying him in darkness instead and taking his power, erasing the last few records of his reign. Kings in the past destroyed the names of the predecessors they felt disgraceful. That is not an option, but Malik will destroy everything else.

He isn't on the river anymore, having passed it over for wider waters, but the thoughts still chase him. His past is dragged in chains behind him, and will be until he destroys the worst of it and heals the rest.

There are no crocodiles, no river-horses, but the water here can kill him just as easily as the waters of the Nile. They are constantly flooding in one land or another, and they bring more destruction than life. He cannot drink it- too much and it would kill him. There are beasts in the water, ones far greater than those which would be waiting in the Nile to tear him apart.

Malik is glad that he chose to journey to Japan by boat. The ocean is so different from anything he has known before, and while he knows his destination, it could lead him anywhere. He can't simply take off and vanish into these horizons offered to him- his clan is hardly going to free itself-, but the possibility is there. Never having had these possibilities open to him, he savors them.

Rishid worries that he will fall. Malik ignores him, and remains at the front of the boat until his kohl smudges and his eyes burn. He doesn't mind. Even a bright future like the one he will create contains some bitterness on its path, after all.
