CHAPTER 5:
Jun looked at his forearm as he lay down on his bed, wondering about who his soulmate was. The art show just finished and he snorted into laughter when the other person said, “That’s 3104 yen for you…”
“Is that a pun?” Jun answered after moments of thinking where the pun came from, if it was a pun.
A new message appeared on his forearm, three characters that were slowly written. Jun had to read it aloud. “SA-TO-SHI.”
“My name…”
“Satoshi, huh?” Jun said, looking at the ceiling. “What a nice name.” There are many kanji variations of that name so it would not be enough for him to hunt the person. But this subtle information is like a tickle to his desire to meet his soulmate… Satoshi.
Jun smirked as he wrote his name using the alphabet. “J.”
The next morning, he found himself sitting by his favorite spot in his favorite homey café, his laptop open. His co-worker, Sho, was sitting beside him.
“Sakurai-kun,” he started.
“Yes?”
“If you’re going to meet someone for the first time, what’s a good place?”
The other man was also surprised with the question. Then he smiled. Wide. “Hmm… Matsumoto-kun, are you going on a date?”
Jun blushed. “Uhh… it’s not really like that!”
Sho chuckled. “This café is a good place, I guess,” he said, looking around him. “If I meet someone for the first time, I’ll bring him to my favorite place.”
“So, how about you then?”
It was his colleague’s turn to blush. “W-well… I guess we can go to a zoo… or something.”
Jun almost choked on his coffee. “What? You don’t even like the zoo!”
Sho glared at him. “Don’t ask anymore, Matsumoto-kun!”
His colleague raised his hands in surrender and proceeded with his task. The silence was broken by high-pitched laughter coming from the other side of the café. Jun took a peek and saw the barista speaking with a dreamy smile to the guy who was excitedly flailing his arms around.
That made him think of something. He had been in this café since the opening date and he still had not asked the name of the kind owner.
“Sakurai-kun, do you know the name of the owner of this café?”
Sakurai just shrugged. “Why don’t you ask? You’re the patron here, not me.” He then sighed. “That other customer is quite noisy, isn’t he?” he commented on the guy with the high-pitched laughter.
“Yeah, but you’ve been staring at him for a while now,” Jun said with a sly smile as he sipped his coffee.
