tired...

I can feel the tiredness down to my bowns bones--crap, did I just spell that wrong? aurgh, I'm too tired to even write this entry.

Today was the typical busy Monday. Had classes from 9am-2pm. Went to Hoag straight after, stopping by the hospital to pick up timesheets. I actually got to explore the new Women's Pavilion at Hoag that just opened a few weeks ago. The building itself is not yet open to the public, but it is open to the staff. Whole units have already begun moving in to their prospective floors. The new pavillion, by the way, is absolutely positively gorgeous! Everything about the new building just smells so...so fresh, and just so new. Stepping into the new hall, with the marble-inlaid floors, the clean-cut walls, and the subtle interior...it really took my breath away. I smiled gleefully all the way to the elevators, knowing that I looked pretty stupid to everyone else who passed me, but I couldn't help it. It was all very beautiful and elegant, and huge: ten floors going straight up. It amazes me how Hoag managed to actually get this building up and running within a year or so of construction.

I rode the elevators up to the 5th floor to Labor and Delivery and took a few minutes just to survey the ridiculously spacious waiting room (honestly, I envy the patients who'll be staying here) and to also peek inside a few patients' room. Beautiful! I then made my way through a maze of hallways before finally locating the nurses' station. And let me tell you: the nurses of L&D have not changed at all! Just as bitter and bitchy as always. All of them ignored me, even after I stopped them politely for directions to the timesheet binder. I finally gave up out of frustration and rode the elevators to the 7th floor: Mother Baby Unit. Nurses there were MUCH nicer than the ones two floors below them. One nurse kindly directed me (and I didn't even have to ask them!) to the lounge and showed me where the timesheet binder was. Easy! I picked up the sheets, organized the contents a bit, and left.

Determined to try again, I rode the elevators back to the 5th floor and finally cornered a nurse, who looked me over and wrinkled her nose when I asked her for the location of the binder. "I don't know," was her vague answer. "I didn't see it when we moved here. Maybe it's back at the old building." And with that, she turned to leave.

"Well, the other units I've visited had all their binders already on the floor," I pressed on, barring her way. "The binders were inside the Nurses' Lounge at all the other units. Do you mind if I go in and look?"

The nurse then took on her full height until she towered over me. She pressed close to me, hovering, glowering. "I already told you that I didn't see it. It wouldn't be in the lounge, because I didn't see it in the lounge. Why don't you just run along and check back at the old building?"

I stood my ground, thinking 'what went up her ass?' "Yes, I know, ma'am. But I wanted to check the lounge in case somebody did actually leave it there."

And she got angry. And for no reason at all, too! "So you don't believe me!" she told me. My reply? "It won't hurt to check. What is the code to the lounge?"

She kind of glared at me for a few seconds before replying: "2453". She walked away, and I walked to the lounge to type the code in. It was wrong. I tried it again. Wrong. Silently fuming, I marched back up to the nurses' station, when the same nurse poked her head out the service window with a saccharine smile plastered on her face.

"Oh, did I say 2453? I meant 2435. Sorry 'bout that, dear!" And with that, she pulled her head back in. Which is a good thing, because I was about ready to bitch-slap that smile off her face. Oh my god, what a BITCH! Stupid, fuck*ng L&D nurses--they all need to be shot or something. And you know what? The binders WERE in the lounge! Those lying bitches.

Seriously, bitter people like that do NOT deserve to be nurses. The same goes with doctors. And I've met quite a few of them while working at Hoag for almost two years. Fortunately, they're only a few, and the majority of the hospital staff are quite nice and overall friendly.

It seems that I've rambled (ranted) on for quite a bit, so I'll end shortly. I stayed at Hoag until about 6pm. I ate some yummy pasta, courtesy of Jane and Silpa, and then we all left for CV to drop off Amy's gifts (it's her 21st birthday today). We stayed for about half an hour, then left. And now I'm back at my apartment. I just finished and turned in my research abstract, and filled out a MOUNTAIN of forms that all need to be signed by my prof tomorrow. Aurgh.

And now i'm really really tired. So now I'll go to sleep. Good night!
