A Heart-Shaped Pox
Carl held up the heart-shaped box to the Beholder.
"Please, do have some. A number of these in my form have a bit of dessicated coconut in the core," the friar offered.
The Beholder grinned in delight and frantically rummaged through the box. After a few seconds of searching, its tentacle eyes shook with indignation as it complained, "Someone kindly enlighten me as to why the Beholder-shaped bonbons are missing their tentacle eyes? Like they had just been bitten off? I detect fang marks!"
Gabriel, who had been chewing quietly in one corner, hastily swallowed the mysterious contents of his mouth and nearly choked at the stunt.
"I did not take any interest in your fiendish bonbons. I would sooner chew on my tojos than fill my mouth with such ungodly, distasteful things!" the monster hunter declared, a choco-tentacle eye peering out of the corner of his mouth.
Carl hid his face in his palms.
The Beholder narrowed all of its eyes. "Perhaps it would please you to be transmogrified into a chocolate bunny? I shall derive immense satisfaction in biting off your foolish head!"
"I'd like to see you do it after I carve you into a giant heart-shaped boil on the Cardinal's hind quarters!" Gabriel countered.
But before everything could disintegrate into a horrific mess, Carl managed to stave off the disaster by accidentally falling into a vat of melted chocolate.
