Update on my hand: doctor didn't want to do surgery, saying it'd just be 'trading a bump for a scar'. He gave me a steroid shot and advised me to wear the splint a few weeks longer, and see him again if it didn't improve. (Still not too fond of my progress so far.)
Update on my fox: haven't heard from him in a few weeks. (Yes, he's still alive.)
Been going through a lot more of the Librivox audiobooks. Several are pretty poor when it comes to foreign terms, and this isn't always even the readers' fault; I just went through The Hunchback of Notre Dame and they used one of the online editions where the scanning had obliterated the Greek; ΑΝΑΓΚΗ, for example, is rendered as 'ANArKH' and pronounced by the reader as though the letters were Latin.
All complaints aside, when they're not working in foreign languages alien to them, they do pretty well. I enjoyed their reading of Henrik Ibsen's The Master Builder today.
