---So with the anime titles showing that we're just zooming through the story, I'm going to do a quick projection of when the anime might outpace the manga if it keeps going at this rate.
As of ep. 138 it equals up to chap 229. (I hope)
Assuming they keep the pace of three chapters an episode, we will have 19 more episodes to bring us up-to-date with chapter 288. Now the tricky bit. One chap of manga is also released every week, so ... (math, ug. I hope I'm doing this right) the anime will match the manga at around ep. 163. That's a gain of 16 eps over the previous catch up prediction, and puts the next 'nessicary' filler at about six months away.
Here's hoping that the 'Search and Rescue' arc is almost done, otherwise I'm not sure where they will put the filler.

So,
kruznik and I got into a discussion about the Arrancar arc. We both agree (to varying degrees) that this arc isn't nearly as good as the Soul Society arc because it's so far mostly just our heroes going though a ladder of fights to reach Aizen. It's like the wow-ness factor that so had us in the SS arc is just... not there yet. Kruznik said that, "The only way I'd consider the Arrancar a credible threat is if they actually manage to kill off at least 2 main characters -- permanently. The fights don't have to be quick and easy but main characters would have to die, never to return." So this got me to thinking... you know, you can't really discount Tite-san killing off his characters. There have been some narrow misses, but no one really major has died... yet.
So, here we present for your mind-bending pleasure some thoughts on: if the Arrancar arc is the last arc, who might die for the sake of bringing some intensity to the story? (please don't be too upset, it's all just speculation...)
Kruznik's bets:
Likely to die:
Yoruichi and Renji - "Both at this point are rather unimportant for how the story would turn out but still have enough emotional *umph* for some of the characters to work through ..." [Kohaku: That would be so sad~]
Ishida - "Ishida might die, but the only way it'd be worthwhile is if somehow Ichigo was forced to kill him in combat ..." [Kohaku: And that would be so cruel!]
Gin - "Will die by Aizen's hand after going double agent."
Aizen - "Of course."
Chad
Likely to survive:
Hitsugaya, Matsumoto - "Will likely survive somehow, even after Gin doing his best to do them in ..."
Urahara
Tousen
Orihime
Kohaku's bets:
Likely to die:
Aizen - But it will only be worth it if Urahara gets to do him in. Bring full-circle the guilt over Hougyoku...
Renji - I'm really not sure that he'll die, but not certain that he'll live either. I can see him going down defending Rukia, for certain. And right now, there is lots to be defended against.
Orihime - She's in a really tough spot right now, and Aizen could kill her easily if he detects her plan. I could see her die trying, but I want her to live.
Likely to survive:
Urahara - (no bais, honest)
Gin - I really hate to say it, but somehow if he doesn't go double-agent like Kruznik thinks, I think he'll survive.
Hinamori - She was *almost* killed once, but perhaps her purpose is not yet done. It sure would make things interesting if she went to Aizen, and had to be killed because she's in the way... She is destined for sadness. So I put her here because perhaps, it's sadder to live.
Yoruichi - I don't really see a point to killing her, except to cause Urahara angst. And... no one wants that. (darn, I'm not bais... >.<)
Hitsugaya, Matsumoto - ditto Kruznik's reason.
Tousen - Captured by Komamura, I hope. Brought to see reason? Who knows...
A couple of these characters aren't even in the 'line of fire' yet, so it will be interesting to see if they even make their way to the battlefield! ^.^ (Urahara did say that he was going to "go on with his own work..."[chap 240] hehehe.)
Please discuss!
