Oh, the end of an era. FMA Brotherhood wrapped up in both manga and anime forms just a little while ago. Amusingly, the magazine cover at the end read "CRY-max!" Punny, but true.
Now-a-days, good stories seem to be hard to find. Or they start out good but don't stay strong for the distance. (*ahembleach*) I wasn't the most ardent follower of FMA, but I sure enjoyed it, and am sad to see it go.
So now, I seek out new stories... new *good* stories XD
Based on someone's rec list, I picked up "Durarara!" and was pleasantly surprised! From the summary of the story, I had no idea what it would be like. And now I know why the summary is the way it is. It's hard to describe, but totally fun to watch.
I'm also trying "Betrayal knows my name". It's... a lot like X, or something else I've seen before. It's not bad, but not exactly stellar either.
As for books, I'm trying to stretch out a bit, with mixed results.
I'm trying "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet", but find it an unusual read. I'm not too sure where it's going yet, and I'm a few chapters in.
"Tongues of Serpents" will be arriving for me soon from the library. If anyone wants it, let me know! I don't know if I'll have a chance to read it, plus I haven't read the last one yet. XD
I've totally devoured "The Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire". No wonder people are *dying* for the next volume - that was one heck of a cliff-hanger it was left at >.<
It's a really interesting story, and totally addictive. I couldn't put it down!
I've also gone though Brandon Sanderson's "Alcatraz" series. Oh, man, the snark! It's so refreshing, in a weird way. ^.^o Then again, how often do you get a main character who is more than willing to admit that he's not a nice person.
Speaking of Sanderson, "Towers of Midnight" is available to place holds on. I'm really looking forward to it - and it's been a while since I've so looked forward to a Wheel of Time book.
I think only a couple people out there will be interested to know that I'm giving 'Doctor Who' a try. ^.^
The amount of back story to this series is downright scary and I don't have the guts to start from the older series. (British humour still makes me go o.o most of the time.) However, the newer series with
David Tennant as the 10th Doctor has me pleasantly surprised! It's exciting, funny, smart, but still old-school campy at times ^.^o
Some is being re-run and streamed on
Space, so I'm slowing watching the eps.
Also caught the lead up to the new season finale (with
Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor). I have to admit that I don't have much idea of what's going on in the big picture, but any time you have every bad guy you've ever ticked off flying above you and you're stuck in a cave with something possibly Earth-endingly evil about to break out of a box, it's *so* not a good day XD
And all goes well. Picking up hours to cover people's summer vacations, trying to get out a bit... Just breezing though the summer.
