Dinner has passed and I'm stuffed, my mother came and we cooked, using some short cuts but otherwise from scratch. If a Marie Callender's Dutch Apple pie comes your way, buy it. That is if you want a large, gooey, sweet apple pie. I bought a duck from that large 99 Ranch market, I was telling Margaret about this past summer and as we tend to eat a lot of it, I bought some duck legs they had in the same section. We had corn bread dressing from scratch, nothing beats fresh, gravy, sweet potatoes, rolls from Trader Joe's, I'm not much of a baker, and greens, my husband made. Everything turned out well. I got to use my new Knife and it really was a big help carving the duck, a duck's joints are slightly different from a chicken's. I highly recommend the Victorinox brand of cutlery they are good knives, affordable, and dishwasher safe. We have lots of leftovers but not much duck. It seems we can eat as much duck as there is. I hesitate to buy two, but perhaps that would be the best thing to do, if I want leftover duck.
Then we called my brother, he lives in Greater Los Angeles, they were at his house this year, rather than at his inlaws. They were all fine and he and mom talked a while. I sometimes wish we lived closer to them, but I don't want to live down there. The traffic is just the worst I've ever seen and I'm sure it has only gotten worse since we moved here.
I was just laughing to myself about people complaining of the traffic here. The worst traffic here was the time when there was a terrible accident on the Carquinez bridge and all the traffic was diverted to the Benicia Bridge and it took me almost two and a half hours to get to Alameda, a trip that normally takes about an hour or less. Well traffic is like that, all the time there.
