New digs

As you may have surmised, foreign agents shut off the transponder on my home DSL. Search parties expect to find said DSL sometime midweek. In the meantime I've been walking around my new neighborhood. I'm now living in heavily Latino west Denver, though my apt is just a couple minutes' walk from the Little Saigon business strip on Federal. The ( Read more... )

Haven't gotten to the point with TREN-D where I remember their names.

Hope that Melanie hasn't left, since singers, even when they're very good, often don't go on to have viable careers once they leave the group. There are exceptions, of course:

My So-Called Life, during field trip to museum:

Teacher: The most important thing to remember is to stay with the group.

Angela: What is the big deal with staying with the group? What if Amelia Earhart had stayed with the group?

Ricky: Or Diana Ross?

Question. Are Vixx lacking in fame enough to qualify for No Tiers? And are they good enough? "On And On" is their only real brush with greatness, but I do like them, and the category does need some Y chromosomes.

Also, do you think PungDeng-E are good enough? This is promising, though another song is the one that's getting pushed:

Speaking of personnel changes, for the second time in their career LPG have completely changed their lineup. There are now nine of 'em. They call their album Filial Daughters' Generation, which may be a reference to another nonet. (I forget if I've been including LPG in No Tiers; again, they may be too lacking in nonfame; alternately, they're trot, which means it's questionable how much a part of K-pop they are.) Here's the best of their new ones, again not the single. Is a cover of this, by Wax, which is a reworking of Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop":

Here's Candy Boy with Elly (she's the one with blue hair) and without Elly. And here are the colour-coded lyrics.

She's the one who looks like Vanessa Hudgens.

The fanblog Oh So Tren-D says:
TREN-D has released their second song, PitAPat! They have performed this song a couple of times, but they are officially releasing it right now....

Additionally, there is no official statement on Elly. On the fancafe, many weeks ago, they were wishing Elly a speedy recovery as she was sick.
The cover photo for PitAPat (두근두근) only shows four members.

두근두근 transliterates as "DOO-gən DOO-gən," but they sing it so fast it sounds more like ""DOO-gə DOO-gə." The meaning Google translate gives is "exciting"; beneath that Google gives "pitapat" as an alternative.

I way prefer "Candy Boy," though "PitAPat"'s an okay breeze.

I agree that "Candy Boy" is the stronger song but breezy is right up my alley. This is lovely! While "Candy Boy" reminded me of Italo, this reminds me of some of the better Stock Aitken and Waterman productions.

I look forward to what you have to say about the new After School album: I wouldn't call it a breeze, exactly, but it goes for glides more than for gut-punches.

It's good to hear from you.

Sorry to say but the new After School leaves me a little cold, just as their other releases have. While it's a fine record, I doubt it will get the repeat listens that Orange Caramel get from me. And the new Orange Caramel single has already been played more than a few times in my house. I keep thinking I should like After School since I love Orange Caramel but they sound so completely different to me even though they are related.

I very much enjoyed this LPG release and spent quite a bit of time listening to it. The "She Bop" reworking really had me confused and then had me hooked for a few weeks.

VIXX made the top 20 on last year's end of year sales chart, and they made the chart four times (at 19 with Jekyll and 34 with Voodoo Doll and 38 with hyde and 51 with On and On), so they're definitely not no-tier creatures of the night. The only boy groups that sold better than them in 2013 are EXO, Infinite and SHINee. They've been getting a lot of solo work this year (first up: N and Hongbin) based on their perceived popularity.

Sold better than them physically, I should say. They didn't make the digital chart.

Here's the sales figures: http://omonatheydidnt.livejournal.com/12535933.html
