Tongueful and tune-tied

New Fefe Dobson, sounds like Luke-era Avril doing "Behind These Hazel Eyes" though with more sense and better dynamics than Luke-era Avril actually had. Don't know for sure, but a quick jump into Google tells me this is actually by Claude Kelly and Fefe. I like it, given that it's in a style that's in danger of exhaustion, and they do a reasonable ( Read more... )

Oh, I should have entitled this "Tongueful and tune-tied," but the title's already gone through on my Twitter feed, so I'll leave as is.

They took my proposed The-Dream parody title. This sounds nice... does that sound still sell? I understand she's had difficulties getting the album project off the ground, is this expected to do it? It sounds very immediate and catchy to me, but I'm not sure how the climate for it is. Maybe you need a name like Kelly or Avril to sell it.

If you get a Benny Blanco or Dr. Luke to club up the sound so as to fit it into the current pop-r&b-dance mess it's been selling from the likes of Ke$ha and Katy Perry and Taio Cruz, but the beat on "Stuttering" may be too unsyncopated, unless the stuttering gets this over. I'm pessimistic, though I like the song. Fefe's never had a hit here, and the song seems like a throwback to "Battlefield" and "My Life Would Suck Without You." Don't know who the producer is on this one, if it's Claude Kelly or someone else. Claude's had a few minor hits as a songwriter this year (Aguilera's "Woohoo" and Ke$ha's "Take It Off" and Miranda Cosgrove's "Kissin' You" and Fantasia's "Bittersweet") but none were produced by him.

Apparently the producer is J.R. Rotem, who's had as much influence as Dr. Luke this year.
