New week, little change, and I apparently missed that Disney's green charity track first entered the 40 last week, so really there's only one newbie.
Disney's Friends For Change "Send It On": Acoustic guitar and violins and you just know that in half a minute the music will swell itself up into uplift. Unexpectedly, it does what it intends, which is to lift us up, as Miley and a Jonas brother trade strong vocals and then harmonize us across the sky. Take my word for it, the first 50 seconds are excellent. Then everything goes wrong, the chorus keeping us aloft a stanza too far, followed by a surprisingly unemphatic Demi and a second Jonas getting in each other's way, a lame middle eight, and then five seconds of good vocal from Selena before strings and the final Jonas whoosh everything into nothingness. NO TICK.
Jason DeRulo "Whatcha Say": This samples a boring art-lollipop by Imogen Heap, improving it greatly by putting beats, a song, and an r&b weeper guy around it but still leaving us with standard r&b passion, glistened up with standard '09 AutoTune, the sample being the only real hook. BORDERLINE NONTICK.
