I've been following Doctors Without Borders on facebook...their inflatable hospital got delayed - turned away from the airport due to no obvious reason - but apparently it is set up now. I think a lot of the problems stem from trying to get resources in with limited capacity to accept them - the airport is swamped, the docks are damaged, etc.
This is the problem with an Island Nation. There is no way to get things in other than air, and that airport only has so much capacity.
Even with the US Military running things (The people who brought you the Berlin Airlift), it is still only one runway, and enough space to have about 40 planes on the ground at any one time.
You know, I've read enough of Ryan H's posts to know that "even with the US Military running things" should probably read "Despite the fact that..." ;-)
I saw that earlier on CNN. I've had to stop watching it 24/7 though, I just can't.
Also consider the port is nearly completely out of commission. I think the Navy(?) is supposed to get there tomorrow to figure out what needs to be done to get it working again, but right now its a waiting game at the airport instead.
