In 2000, there was a man campaigning for president during the primary season. He didn't quite make it to the General Election. But he was a straight talker, a man with a clear history and record, a military career and a sense of honor ( Read more... )

"Welcome to the machine". Yeah, he had some issues, and I didn't like his personal stuff, but he was a "maverick" once. Now he toes the party line with a framing hammer and wears the banner they have draped over him.

On another subject, do you want to come to the Vampire ball on Nov 1 with your wif? You don't have to dance, and if waltz music bores you, they've got a goth area. I'll score you two some very cheap tix if you're interested--it'd be fun! You could bring your home woodworking projects!

I.. don';t have woodworking projects.

And I would love to go, but costuming is the issue at this point. Can you point me at a website?

Dude, who needs a costume when they have your smile?

The dance website is at http://www.peers.org/vamp08.html
"Costumes admired but not required"
The woodworking reference is of course that you could just bring a stake. Or a steak. Or a stick. Or something. Buffyesque.

If you're dancing, dance shoes. (leather soles.) I can give you my Waltz Survival Primer aka They're Watching The Girl, Dude, Relax. But this is one dance where black is the new black, where
a little red food coloring is very fun, where half the crowd is there to hang out and look at the costumes.

If naught else, I could loan you a too-large tux jacket, over black jeans and a black shirt, and when people ask (which they won't) say you're being sucked dry by the gubberment. Wit counts, and wit you have!

I am similarly disappointed. I used to respect him as a person--if not disagree with his politics.

I agree that he does not seem to be the man he used to be. I am concerned that he has sold his soul to the devil. The sad thing for him is that he most likely won't win now anyway and he won't get his soul back either.

The devil, as in metaphorical (Rovian institutions and Republican tactics), or devil in specific as lucifer in a satanic pact?

I suppose I meant metaphorically but either way you don't get your soul back. It is a shame but McCain's candidacy comes 8 years too late. I have no way of knowing if he would have sold out back then too. If he had been successful back then who knows where we'd be now. In Iraq?... We'll never know.

Do you know which of them is for drilling in the Artic?

That would be McCain, though I think Obama is open to it. Obama wants them to drill on the 64 million acres of leased land they have available in other parts of the US before we open up new land to exploitation, so thats a step in the right direction for me.
