My semi-recent songwork, in chronological order. All have music to them, which makes them more tolerable and less drippy. Well, the third one at least.
This first one's title is still tentative.
Flying Alone
Every time I
See your picture
Sadly hanging
Up on the wall
I'm reminded
Of contentment
Killing my sorrow
Filling me when
You call
When you flew
Away to your homeland
To your sleep
Of eternal bliss
I fell down
Before you and cried out
Couldn't my time
Without you be
One second less
Don't leave me alone
Don't leave me alone
Take me with you
Take me with you
Take me with you
Take me with you
I fly on to
Make you happy
With an empty
Space at my side
All I wanted
Was our oneness
To live on until
The end of the sky
'Till the end of the sky
'Till the end of the sky
Take me with you
Take me with you
Take me with you
Take me with you
This next one I wrote by demand. Rob liked my first pirate song a lot and insisted I write another. So I did. Beware the lack of any literary (or poetic... or musical) merit whatsoever. Darned fun to sing, though.
The Ballad of Captain Pete
Ohhhh…..
Captain Pegleg Eyepatch Pete was
Heartless through and through
Captain Pegleg Eyepatch Pete was
Hated by his crew
Captain Pegleg Eyepatch Pete did
Not know how to lead
They stuffed him in his treasure chest and
Threw him in the sea
Ooh, Noo, Captain Pete!
Look what you made us do!
Ooh, Noo, Captain Pete!
There’s no place for you!
Sink, Sink, Down and Down
Down to the ocean floor!
Breathe your final dying breath
Your kingship is no more!
But Captain Pegleg Eyepatch Pete was
Not about to fail
He hummed until his treasure chest was
Swallowed by a whale
He lived inside its stomach for a
Hundred days and five
Eating it from inside out so
He could stay alive
Ohh, Noo, Captain Pete!
Now look what you’ve done!
Ooh, Noo, Captain Pete!
You’ll be sure to drown!
Push, Push, all your might!
Maybe the land’s in reach!
Push until the putrid whale
Has washed up on the beach!
Captain Pegleg Eyepatch Pete stepped
Out onto the sand,
He did not know just where he was, but
He knew it was land
He set off toward the jungle trees with
Two blades in his coat
He set about his lumber work to
Build himself a boat
Ohh, Noo, Captain Pete!
What do you have in mind?
Ohh, Noo, Captain Pete!
Don’t kill us for our crime!
Pull and tack and heave and sail!
Escape from the seven seas!
Captain Pegeleg Eyepatch Pete will
Not have victory!
Captain Pegleg Eyepatch Pete gave
Chase until the dawn
He climbed aboard his former ship
His knife and Cutlass drawn
He rampaged through their beds and bunks
Attacking with his sword
Slaughtering until his crew
Was finally no more
Ooh, Noo, Captain Pete!
How will you survive?
Ooh, Noo, Captain Pete!
A storm has now arrived!
Row, Row, all your might! Your
Boat is about to sink!
With no trusty comrades hands
You’ll soon be in the drink!
Ooh, Noo, Captain Pete!
Now have you learned the price?
Ooh, Noo, Captain Pete!
You’ll soon pay with your life!
Look, Look, ’comes the wave!
Look on it with dread!
Here it comes a-crashing down
And Captain Pete is dead!
This drippy one went through a couple versions, but I decided the "dying" version was better than the "having a baby" version. Oh yes, I think that incarnation of the lyrics will remain buried forever. Which isn't to say these are great. But they're preferable.
Title tentative on this one also.
Curbside Lament
Wake up
Show me you're breathing
Keep still
Your heart is still beating
I've already called
The ambulance
They will see us here
Let's have patience
I've already told
The people to
Step away
Give us room
Don't die
(Don't let me die)
(I'm not ready to go)
I can't let you go
I'm a part of you
(You're a part of me)
(As one we hold on and)
Continue to breathe
Your hand
I can only feel it
My eyes
Refuse to reveal it
Don't let go of me
I can hear you
Don't stop holding me
I can feel you
Don't abandon me
I need you to
Hold my hand
Keep me alive
Don't die
(Don't let me die)
(I'm not ready to go)
I can't let you go
I'm a part of you
(You're a part of me)
(As one we hold on and)
Continue to breathe
This final one is... rather altered from its source. Mostly in its tense, but also by cutting out huge chunks and summarizing and rearranging... yeah.
Psalm 40
Lord, I wait for you
Turn to me and hear my cry
Carry me up from the depths
Give me a place to stand
Put a new song in my mouth
A hymn of praise to you
Many, O God, are the wonders you do
Endless the blessings you plan for me
Here I am, come to do your will
Your law, O God, rests within my heart.
Let me speak of your truth
Do not let me hide your love
Burdens lie surrounding me
My heart fails for I cannot see
Deliver me with haste, my God
I am helpless without you
Many, O God, are the wonders you do
Endless the blessings you plan for me
Here I am, come to do your will
Your law, O God, rests within my heart.
Huh. Got some variety in there at least.
