Yayyy, PBS! Another Opera...
Review: Eugene Onegin.
This one, I also came in on later in the day, but I enjoyed it just as much. I loved the melody of Tatiana's song at night where she questions fate... "Guardian angel or trecherous temptor?" I also love how they had actual water, candlelight, and when Tatiana was writing the letter, she heated wax in the candle's flame and then stamped it.
I also loved the night to dawn effect of the lights.
The conflict between Tatiana, from start to finish, and Onegin seems so very familiar... although I have had more like the beginning than the end, I felt very connected...
It was so sad. I recommend it to anyone who's a veteran of love and likes Opera. Also, positions I've been in:
- Tatiana's, both before and after
- Lensky's
- Onegin's, mostly before
It struck a deep note... enough that I wept for the characters. I wept in the middle, and moreso at the end, due to the familiarity of it.
I highly recommend it.
