Uh, spoilers. This means I talk about the ending.
So, foundling girl from orphanage is sent to college by anonymous rich trustee, and in exchange, she has to write him letters. She does so with such eloquence and spirit that he doesn't stay the distant sponsor he set out to be, and in the end, it turns out that the uncle of her roommate, the man she falls in love with, is also the man she wrote all her secrets and feelings to, and this is a happy ending, apparently.
I loved the voice of Jerusha's letters so much, and the way everything is described hits all the right spots with me - boarding school vibes, fashion of old days, girl wanting to become a writer, american country life ... and I also thought that Jerusha was a quite modern and independent character - until the end. It doesn't sit right with me that she is actually happy that her confidence has been abused in this manner. I guess I'm not romantic enough.
