Events of the last couple of weeks, in no particular order:
- Got a learner's permit and started learning to drive (finally). I'll take my road test on August 18th and should then have an unrestricted license, which is kind of terrifying.
- Made some decisions regarding law schools and scholarships, and worked on applications; I'm applying to law school at Yale, Columbia, Georgetown, American, and William & Mary (they gave me an application fee waiver, because they love me), and I'm applying for the Rhodes, Marshall, and Thouron scholarships (I decided not to do the Gates Cambridge, the Mitchell, or a Fulbright, for various reasons). If I get the Rhodes, I'll be working on an MPhil in Comparative Government at Oxford (2 years), and if I get the Marshall or the Thouron, I'll be working on an MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science (first choice, one year) or an MA in Comparative Politics from the University of York (second choice, one year). I'm feeling pretty on top of things at the moment, but I have a lot more to do before I return to Penn.
- My boy left me. By which I mean, decided he couldn't keep doing the long-distance thing, figured this meant a break-up since, by past experience, it seemed obvious I wouldn't agree to him coming to Philadelphia, and thus decided to simply leave town. Well, the state, actually--he's working in Las Vegas, Nevada at the moment. Idiot. This ended up being a much more difficult process that he thought, so he called me to explain. For a couple of days it seemed obvious we were done, and then I decided to offer a new start--that he come to Philadelphia and we try again with a whole new set of rules. He's in as of late last week, and will be moving to Philly around the end of this month (when I go back to school). It's been incredibly difficult, and I'm not too keen on re-hashing the details. We'll see how things go this fall.
- Most importantly, I now have a gmail account. Huzzah! Gmail is all that is wonderful and beautiful.
Certain people who have graduated from UNM and left me for newer, better, and more Washington/Jamaica-based hijinks should, you know, IM/email/call (theirloveissocommunicative) me, because I miss them. ;_;
Over and out, people--I have work to do. <3
