OK, a lot has happened since I posted last. And I suck at updating :(
Last weekend I went to Osaka, to the part I spent time in last summer. Not a whole lot has changed, but it was nice to see familiar stuff for the first time since I've been back. It helped to tie the two trips together some. I bought a bunch of cheap PlayStation games and a new card reader for the digital camera. Not much of interest on that trip really, except for two or three small points.
- I found out that First Kitchen's teriyaki fries are awesome.
- When buying the card reader, this guy who didn't speak Japanese was trying to buy something on credit, and was failing. After a minute, I decided to help out and translate for them. Everyone seemed really pleased I was there.
- There were all of these people selling 1000 yen bootleg DVDs of various movies in the theaters here. I expect Hellboy will be one of them when I go back soon, since that's going to be in theaters this Friday here.
Monday I went to the final game of the pro baseball team in Kobe, Orix BlueWave. As of next year, they'll be the Orix Buffaloes of Osaka (since they're merging with the Kintetsu Buffaloes, currently in Osaka). It was a nice final game, since it was BlueWave vs Buffaloes in Kobe, and BlueWave won 7-2. We had much better seats than would be possible in American events on game day, but we ended up sitting with the Buffaloes supporters. The fans here are much more synchronized in their chants and stuff than most pro events in America too, I think. It was really fun. They had fireworks and played this karaoke video of the BlueWave theme and everything.
Tuesday we got paid, so I did a little bit of shopping. I got a few more DVDs, but nothing too special. I went for the crazy deals that I found, basically. I bought Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone so my host family could watch it (and because watching it with Japanese subs helped me learn a bunch of new vocabulary), and we're currently watching Home Alone (again, with Japanese subtitles).
Anyway, today's big event is the typhoon, "Typhoon #21" as it's called. Really imaginative, I know. It was pouring rain as we went to school, but pretty much stopped for most of the day. Tonight is supposed to be absolutely brutal though. Hope I can sleep. That's about it.
