my gosh, i can't even tell you how long it's been since i've posted like..a real actual post. My apologies to everyone. I think a bunch of people realized that I haven't posted either and dropped me as well, so to all of you that are still around, I really appreciate that. :) If you still wanna drop me anyway, since I haven't really read a whole lot of LJ either, that's ok too. Now. with that said.
I think I last posted a couple days after getting back from the Philippines. Got busy since then, doing photoshoots, processing photos at night while working during the day. It leads me to one conclusion: I need a retouch assistant. Then again, the last full day I shot on Monday, I shot like. 580 frames. I need to stop that. But sometimes, I get a bit trigger happy. With the Rodeo coming and going, I invested in some heavy-duty equipment. First thing I did was upgrade memory. I only had 1 1GB Sandisk Ultra II cards. I now have 6 or 7 now. If you go to Costco, you can get a Sandisk Ultra II 1GB card for either SD or CF for 39.99. Seriously, you need them. I love their write speed, and when I'm shooting models moving or bulls tossing cowboys, it's the shit. I've yet to try a Lexar product, but I love Sandisk. After purchasing an Epson P-2000 media viewer that has a 40gb hd on it that I can just dump images on which is way cool, I also went out and bought the new Nikon 18-200mm VR lens. Holy shit, that hurt my wallet, but that lens is butta. This year's photos from Rodeo, with the exception of shooting the barrel racing in near pitch black conditions, is GOLD this year. If you wanna preview, do so at
http://www.sorianophoto.com and click on the Coarsegold Rodeo section, where the pics are still unsorted.
Other than that, bought more seamless paper for backgrounds, so now I have 6ft rolls of white, black, royal blue and red, fire engine red and hot pink polycanvas, and 1 9ft roll of "studio grey" that looks more like doodoo brown. Anyway. I've got a ton of pics to share with you all, since I said I would and it's been 2+ weeks. I'm just so tired. I'm not sleeping well I don't think, and I need to get started on my 6-pack.
To all the moms on my list that I didn't get to by phone or by txt message today, Happy Mother's Day to you! :)
recap of the last 3-4 weeks. sorry about the watermark, 80% is pulled off proof cd's that I sent to clients.
So I shot a fashion show. I don't have radio slaves or wireless transmitter, so I rely on my flash to set off my studio strobes, and what I did to get even light was I bought a 5 ft silver satin umbrella to bounce my lights off, about 7 feet up in the air pointed down at the end of the runway. Problem is, everyone and their mom had flash, so it'd go off weird at times, b/c that's what it is supposed to do. the back of my monolight senses light, it flashes. Well little did I know at the other end of the runway, homegirls set up a strobe light. Well that just fudges it all up. Anyhow, that got turned off after 20 mins of pleading. And shit went well.
And a pat on the back for moi, some of the shots I took will be appearing in the May or June 2006 edition of Fresno Magazine. Let me know if you get one, thank you! I need to buy a couple copies.
Lookit Vanity in that last shot goin all Christina Aguilera Lady Marmalade. that's all her own hair too. I was like. sheeeeit that's a dog on yo head. Anyhow. Love to my muse.
But since she went all Suicide Girls on me, I figure, I need a new muse if I can't shoot her anymore. So enter someone who contacted me through my profile on
Model Mayhem who wants to be the new muse. So we got together and did a 3-hr hangout and test shoot. She was so much fun, we have so many ideas, one of them being. MILF. Look out for it when we shoot the series in a couple of months :) Anyhow, Emilie rocks the house. We have the same sense of humor too, which is fuckin hilarious, really. Anyhow. D rocked the makeup on Emilie.
Paul Mitchell Megashoot on 4/19! God was that fuckin stressful. I felt so unprepared, and I only brought one background, my 9 foot "studio grey". grey my ass. Terrible lighting issues as well since I didn't get to shoot in a room with 4 walls for once, I had to do it in the main area where there's a buttload of sunlight coming in, threw a lotta shit off. shadows galore too. pissed me off. Anyhow, we worked it out. I had fun, and signed up some girls to keep shooting till they get licensed.
This is my tribute to Spike Lee in "Do The Right Thing", RIP Radio Raheem!!! Oh, and Denise is one badass motherfucker.
she will kill you. she's actually really sweet, and I loved working with her. I have a shot of her in my actual printed portfolio, and at Rodeo a family with many piercings and mohawks took several of my cards b/c they loved what we did. I dig that.
oh Sandie Sue...you fine ass Asian. With crazy hair. I wish my hair looked like that. I'd be like. a Japanese pop star with Yakuza connections, NAWMEAN. ok i'm high on crack now.
And I'm sure this girl would hate me if i told her she reminded me of Anna Nicole Smith. So I just won't mention it. She was cool though. She didn't like crowds though. She musta not got the memo that the entire school would be watching.
And then we get to Megan's friends, Tonya and Beau. My god, I didn't think people could have sex with clothes on. This married couple, well, they watched Zoolander and pulled a MONK. B/c they somehow had some serious boning I dunno. All I know is, shooting people in love is hot. I love how you can just feel the intimacy. It's f'in sexy, and I can't wait to shoot them again. I got some cool ideas for them.
And then I had the Queens competition for the Rodeo to determine who was gonna be Rodeo Queen, Princess, and Little Princess. Here's two contestants as I shot them on white before their interviews. Sweet girls.
And then there was a shoot on the 8th. D wasn't feeling good, and I challenged her to do it. And she brought the heat dammit, especially with the peacock. I mean, you wouldn't have recognized these girls out of makeup. Like the redhead, Amanda. I had no idea it was the same girl when she came out the second time. It was fun. Debut of the new blue bg that worked out well, and I found my new secret weapon for posing. I just might share it with you sometime, but I got some GREAT poses using this device. Anyhow, this shoot was fun. it was HOT, b/c it was in the country, but did shots on backgrounds indoors, outdoors, it was just fun. Gotta do more like these. I remember sitting there and thinking. God, I wish I could do this every day for the rest of my life. For lots of money of course. :)
Maybe if I get up to shooting celebs or swimsuit or lingerie models perhaps. :)
and then, some rodeo pics of course, one from mutton bustin', where little kids ride sheep. SO cute. And then some cowboys getting the crap beat outta them. Awesome.
And that's it for now. This is just an inkling, of course. I shot a jaw-dropping 3200 pics at Rodeo this year. Go to my website to check it all out.
http://www.sorianophoto.com. I hope to start posting more and catch up on all of you. Have a great Monday!
