重慶森林,Chungking Express Pic Spam [part 1 of errrr several] is
here. Part 2 is
here.
At the end of the last pic spam, Cop #663 was approaching the Midnight Express where Faye was on her own, after everyone else bailed on her because they didn't want to be around when he was told that his skanky girlfriend had dumped him - and also returned the key to his apartment.
When Faye tries to tell him, he plays it cool.
When she tries to give him the letter, he says he wants to drink his coffee and doesn't take it.
They stand in this pose for some time .....
Then he leaves, still not wanting the letter. A little later, another cop appears in the Midnight Express and when the boss asks where Cop #663 is, the gist is that he's off somewhere nursing a broken heart. To this day I'm puzzled about why this causes Faye to smile. Is she happy that she is in with a chance? Is she happy to know that Cop #663 is such a sensitive guy?
In any case, she has a secret, slightly puckish smile.
In his apartment, a depressed Cop #663 comforts himself by talking to inanimate objects. He tells them the things that he wants to tell himself. To the bar of soap, he tells it that it's getting thin and it should take care of itself more.
He tells the dripping, ragged tea towel to stop weeping, that it should have some self-respect.
He tells his stuffed toys to stop moping.
Make note of this stuffed toy in particular - the white bear :)
In this scene, Faye is sent out on an errand for the shop.
Along the way, she bumps into Cop #663 who is eating lunch in a side street with some other colleagues. So much love - I used to eat lunch in exactly the same place when I lived in Hong Kong :)
He helps her carry her heavy basket and they exchange chit chat. Faye's a bit of a restless soul, not really committed to anything - wandering and with a hankering to go to California.
Again so much love for this scene. All filmed in Sheung Wan, near Hollywood Road where I used to live. This bit is about 2 minutes away from where I used to live and I'd wander up and down these narrow streets all the time.
Faye convinces Cop #663 to give her his address so that she can send his letter to him. He agrees, writes it down and we discover that he lives very close by .....
Reflective Faye. I'm not sure in this scene whether this is her thinking back on what she has done, or contemplating what she intends to do - which is to sneak into Cop #663's apartment and snoop around because she's infatuated with him :)
Stealth Faye. She puts on dishwashing gloves - does she think he's going to dust for prints??? :)
She snoops around his apartment, going through all of stuff and getting acquainted with his living space. Then the story switches to the point of view of Cop #663. He mentions how he likes to come home unexpectedly sometimes because from time to time, his ex-girlfriend (skanky one) would sneak in to surprise him.
He tells his ex girlfriend to come out of the cupboard, even though he knows she's not there.
Little does he know that Faye is, though.
As he comes back around to double check, Faye hides - just out of his line of vision ..
When he leaves, she stands by the window and calls out teasingly and then ducks back to hide.
After that, whenever she encounters him on his beat, she sneaks into his apartment, knowing that the place will be empty. Cop #663 is still kind of cool with her, he's not really interested in her yet, I don't think.
In this scene, Faye has just found out that Cop #663 will be busy for a while, so she hastily bolts off. "Where are you going?" he demands, very puzzled as she heads back to the shop, clearly abandoning her errand.
When she's supposed to be at the bank paying the electricity bill, Faye's at Cop #663's apartment watering his plants. She's on the phone to her boss, telling him that there's been a freak rainstorm. To prove it she holds the phone near the shower nozzle. The boss is understandably incredulous given that it's sunny where he is.
Faye makes herself at home.
Tells the bear she'll be back ..
And heads back down the escalator. Hee! I used to travel this escalator to work for almost two years.
Incredulous boss after being given yet another excuse by Faye for why she hasn't discharged her duties :)
She's got more important things to do.
Like buy things for Cop #663's apartment.
She re-arranges things in his apartment.
Swaps his tablecloth for a new one
Swaps his thongs for new ones
Ummm, she even puts sleeping pills in his water because she thinks he needs more rest.
It works.
Quirky Faye dancing with a can of coke :)
She swaps out his goldfish
She swaps his old soap for new soap.
She swaps out his toothbrush cup for a new one.
She cleans his cupboards and finds a spare uniform left behind by skanky girlfriend.
So for fun she tries it on and takes photos.
She puts new photographs on his mirror.
She swaps his sardines for new ones - but puts the old label on the new tins :)
She unpacks a checked shirt he owns but has never worn and puts it at the front of his wardrobe.
Helpfully places a pair of red socks nearby....
This is deeply weird but she goes over his bedsheets with a magnifying glass until she finds a long hair that belonged to his ex-girlfriend.
She studies it and makes squeeful noises. I'm really not sure why :) Yup, she's kooky.
She changes his bedsheets around.
Takes his old white bear
Swaps it for a Garfield which we saw her buy in
story #1 She has bought him nice new teatowels.
Deletes a voicemail from his ex girlfriend and leaves - although it appears that she has forgotten to turn off the water.
Cop #663 suddenly has a feeling that perhaps his girlfriend has returned so he races home ...... only to find his apartment flooded. Of course he doesn't suspect Faye's been in there stalking him so muses: "I can't decide if I have forgotten to turn the tap off or if the apartment has grown sentimental in its old age". :) Such a cute way of looking at things.
But how does Cop #663 react to the strange changes around his apartment?
