How much do I adore skwidfan? She doesn't even watch Battlestar Galactica let alone ship Apollo/Sharon (we met via Cedric/Hermione, another one of my non-canon pairings ;), but she took pity on me in my pitifulness and made 3 lovely image manips for me :) ( Hee! )

Apollo has issues... rar.... :P I am so amused that your older (er younger?) brother doesn't know what a ship is. But he is a boy after all, they just don't understand it I think. And remember darling Koala what have we said about Cannon?

Younger. Conceptually he has known all his life about ships because I've been incurably shippy since I was young, see here, he just didn't know the phrase. :D

I think, by your description, Apollo is going to need a shirt that says 'Don't hate the playa! Hate the game!'

And I guarantee you I'll find them... I will, like you if I dislike the main pairing from the getgo, I go looking for minor pairings... I do this all the time. Even if I do like a major pairing (Harry/Hermione or House/Cuddy) I'll go run with the little guy because it's more fun.

The primary pairing is Kara/Lee ie. Starbuck/Apollo and the two of them have lashings of chemistry. It's just for me, they often feel more like brother and sister than lovers. HP fandom was wonderful for me - it made me realise that lots of people like playing with their imagination and aren't necessarily constrained by canon. I love the challenge of balancing canon with imagination. It's hugely fun.

To be honest, you might like the character of Helo because he's very much a Cedric character - good, brave, hot, heroic :)

That's kind of the impression I get from Starbuck/Apollo, but I also have that mental bias from the old _OLD_ series where I was like, 'omgee! I want to be bff with guys like those, they look to be the best of friends/brothers', it kind of stuck with me. As for Helo, is he really like Cedric? :D looks can be decieving because in that Kara/Helo manip he looked like mr. tough grumpy pants, but then again now that I think of it, so did everyone else.
