Nor is subjectivity necessarily a bad word. Again, it's in how one handles it. One's historicity/subjectivity can provide unique views. I'm often reminded of this as a bi-ricial child. Native people believe that creatures of two worlds have special power. We're bridges. We have unique perspectives. But we function so because of our (particular) subjective uniqueness. We must be aware of and use our subjectivity, or it uses us. :-)

I wrestle with the issue all the time because when I studied philosophy we had to study ethics and we got onto the subject of objectivism and relativism and although I found it difficult to say that there were absolute rights and wrongs - because who am I to judge. Relativist morality is also a dangerous and slippery slope. In the end my head exploded and I decided that all I could do was the best I could do and hope that I was making the right judgments but never claim I was Positive I Was Right. :P
