超人归来: 7月11日上映, Superman Returns starts in Beijing on 11 July
It has been impossibly hard to find a cinema listing for the Wangfujing Cinemas! Finally I found one. It is here. The English version of the page doesn't work so I had to struggle my way through the Chinese.
I mentioned last year when talking about Narnia that China only permits a quota of a certain number of foreign films per year (increased from 10 to 20 films) and that I usually have to rely on the pirated dvd market if I want watch non-Chinese movies. I like seeing movies at the cinema even though it's much more expensive but sometimes I have no choice. Movie tickets are RMB 50 - 70 (USD 6.25 - USD 8.70 , AUD 8.40 - AUD 11.80) whereas the pirated dvds are RMB 8 (USD 1, AUD 1.30).
Fortunately, Superman Returns appears to be blockbustery enough. to have come to the cinemas here. This tells me that Superman Returns starts on 11 July and this page gives me a blurb in Chinese about it. I might organise an outing to go and see it.
Superman Returns is called 《超人归来》in Chinese which means "Superman Returns" or "Superman comes back". Bryan Singer's name has been translitered as 布莱恩·辛格 (Bu Lai En·Xing Ge). Kate Bosworth has become 凯特·波斯沃斯 (Kai Te·Bo Si Wo Si). James Marsden is 詹姆斯·马斯登 (Ja Mu Si·Ma Si Deng). The blurb reads as follows:
超人归来神秘离去几年之后又回来了，但这时人们已经习惯没有超人的生活了。超人心痛地发现自己的女友已嫁他人；还有超人的死对头也在酝酿他的新阴谋：让超人永远失去超能力！面对打击和困难，超人为了让他所热爱的地球家园不被洪水毁灭，超人归来毅然下深海、上太空……拯救人类！摘自世纪环球在线
Several years previously, Superman left and now has returned but in the meanwhile, people have already become accustomed to a life without Superman around. To his heartache he discovers that his girlfriend has already married and his mortal enemy is plotting a new plan in which Superman will be forever stripped of his powers. Facing this attack and difficulties, in order to save his beloved earth from being destroyed by flood, Superman goes to the depths of the ocean, rises into space in order to save humanity. [I can't understand the last bit. It literally reads as pluck this century's earth online - but that makes no sense!]
Nonetheless, it looks excellent and everyone I know who has seen it (overseas of course :) loves it. In honour of the movie here is the Main Title track from the soundtrack. The Superman theme has got to be one fo the most recognisable and uplifting themes around. I always associate it with my bro because as a little kid he adored Superman beyond belief :) I'm also uploading track 9 which is called Not like the train set. No idea what happens but it must be something exciting because there is a dramatic segue into the Superman theme ;)
